i had a thought last night wen i was listening to forest temple music on zelda ocarina of time and was wondering it would be cool that a zelda mod was made!

i had ideas like u cud use hl2 engine 1st (durr)
replace models wit slingshot, bow and master sword etc
hav huge hyrule field wit castle
each place is a separate map loaded wen u go sumwer
all the old places in old game are ther like the water temple, forest temple!
not sure how this will work but u could hav day and night time outside in hyrule field
u could use music from old game as i hav them all pratically

so ther u are tell me wat u think coz i might ask sum good ol friends to make it and all

tell me ur thoughts plz as i wanna no if its sad or ok or brialliant lol

(i reckon its brilliant :P)

It'd be really good, but EXTREMELY difficult to code. You're practically coding a whole new game there, but it would rule. Zelda is one of the best games ever.

I would love having The Legend of Zelda: OOT as mod for Half-Life 2! Just imagine what the Source engine could do with it, assuming it was placed in good hands!

Well, it is possible, and it could be a good idea. Just take a look at Master sword mod for HL. It is possible, but realy hard to made it all to work like you would like.

I can't see the point in having a half-life mod of zelda, they are two totally different game genres and it wouldn't work in my oppinion.

Why not just make an adventure style game, that has such weapons as swords, bows, and magical powers. You don't need green people with pointy ears!

It's often harder to understand and doesn't really make a good first impression, whether you're an experienced mapper or not.

As for your mod idea, have you ever heard of 'foxing'? Since you want to base your mod on Zelda, you'd better ask them permission to use their characters and such. It has happened several times before that mods were canceled by game studios...

Now onto modding... Such a thing would cost a pretty large amount of time to do it right. Not only would it involve model replacing but for proper behaviour also coding. The level-design is also something not to be taken lightly. So if you're really serious, you'd better start training yourself and get more experience in the area of level-design.
It's not an impossible task, but one that is often underestimated... so, know what you're aiming for...

1. it needs coding
2. take a very long time and i doubt any1 here is bothered enough to make it

I have a C++ compiler for free. Hehehe... You can get cheap ones for free of the internet (Legally)

How could this take money to do?

You can get everything for free, compiler, graphics program, goldwave, whatever it may be. Thats how I do everything, lol.

Ill help. And from up there, you said how a level cant be a huge map.. Thats why you would use global entities. env_global, and set the field in entities that say "global name".

Right, this project will fail because:

You don't have a programmer
You're not organized enough
There's not enough dedication
You dont have a good texture artist

Let's look at what happened to mario mod. I mean, it's pretty much stone cold dead, isn't it.

Nintendo is dying anyway. I mean, their gamecube thing, almost no-one has one. People nowdays want better games with cooler graphics, more realistic, blahblah, like Halo 2 and Half-Life 2

I could of got a GameCube for free, but I decided against it.
The only good thing about gamecube is F-Zero Gx? I think thats what it is called.

My Nintendo64 and Xbox are beloved, but they have to understand that by gathering so much dust, they are actually gaining my favor in some weird missunderstood way.

I got gamecube for free after my nintendo 64 was nicked while i was on holliday so i said to the insurance that i had a gamecube nicked!

Its ok but it has gotton crap now and not many companies make games for it anymore and the reason i still play it sometimes is for super smash brothers game!

I know this post is old but i decided i wanted to see what the newest members think of the idea

I never wanted to make it and it was only a little idea that i thought would be cool if a good team of mappers would make it.

How about a samurai mod where you train with a master and get better swords as you progress

Its not hard to think of ideas so why not give it a go
