I love HL2, but come on, everybody has said that it is easily moddable, but there is not a single pak or mdl or any file of that sort in any of the HL2 directories. Where can you find these files? I am mostly looking for the music and models. THANKS IN ADVANCE

That's because it uses Game Cache Files instead of Pak files.

You really don't even need to unpack this stuff like models and sounds, Hammer will automatically load them for you with the proper gameinfo setup, and when the proper SDK is released.

I think a lot of problems and "bugs" will clear up once the official SDk comes out. People seem to be experiencing all sorts of problems currently while making maps for HL2.

And unfortunately, because it's so new, very few have the answer to these questions.

I would imagine it's best to focus on building the basic architecture and texturing for now before the SDK is available. Otherwise, so much time would be wasted on basic problem-solving instead of spending time on creativity.

I hope all those darn bugs are fixed when the full SDK comes out...as well as the offline mode in HL2...

Worst thing about it: it used to work!! Now it doesn't...

I tell you, this is the first time that I've used Steam and I'm beginning to hate it.

as usual steam is sh#t.
Long live 1.5 and, offline gaming, seperate shortcuts for each game, clean desktops with only the sound icon, NO UPDATES, full games/map editors released with the first version of the game(that could've been done in the time they had when re-coding the engine because of the leak), running multiple games at once, automatic running of the game upon compile, map editors being distributed on the internet rather than blocking the ppl that want it and giving it to thousands who wont use it, tfc:source!!!, HLDM!!! and the list goes on....

running multiple games at once
That's the only one that appears useless to me there.

Perhaps all our problems and hassles will be solved (or at least clarified) when the elusive SDK rears its head "sometime next week".
We can hope anyway....

No vulgar word in my vocabulary can express my hatred towards steam. GAAAH!!!

The Source SDK contains several models (a lamp, a Combine soldier, etc.) ready to compile.

Along with XSI or another modeling program you can model for HL2.

Props are what make hl2 so damn hard to modify! You gotta learn to model now or else you might as well give up ;)

that sounds suspicious :quizzical:

look, its illegal to open those files or use them in hl1.You need to hack them youtself and use it only in your pc.

I hacked it myself. But no releasing to public because its illegal :|

Ye olde thread.

It's not illegal to open or modify the models/sounds in any way shape or form. Independent redistribution without proper copyright notification and permission is.
