yesturdays news...
Yes, but I slept through a lot of yesterday! (7pm - 6am)
Anyways, after the obligitory Korn phase that most people went through (detuned guitars = music phase), the first REAL band I listened to was Pantera. I got all their albums, and all the DVDs (which I have to admit make me cringe sometimes). Point is, I grew my hair long so it could look like Dimebags; it didn't. Despite having curly hair, mine looked retarded and semi-sex offenderish. I spent a lot of my teens venting my anger by thrashing like a lunatic to Pantera. In a darkened room. By myself.
I was as pissed off as anyone (though saw it coming) that Pantera would kick Phil Anselmo out. I never got into the side projects, and, although I feel Anselmos vocals and lyrics made Pantera as much as the music, I can't help but feel that despite his talents, he's nothing more than a Prima Dona. I'm still waiting to hear of any mention of him in the list of mourners. I just hope he doesn't scream and rant "PANTERA IS DEAD" as loud anymore.
Panteras use of confederate imagery and the whole cowboy imagery attracted a lot of neo nazis and headcases, the "you killed pantera" lunatic proving this. I saw it as a 'Don't give a shit' attitude, and associated with it instantly. I loved, and still love Pantera, and Dimebag was kinda my hero, (though I could never play a note on the guitar!). As someone said "Underneath the tattoos, purple beard and long hair, he was the nicest guy" he, and Vinnie Paul were always the ones that seemed to just be out for a good time.
He seriously is someone that I will miss.
