Keep your tolerance for other people's views at maximum level in this topic.

The bible of Christianity is supposed to be the perfected moral code, we're supposed to be as merciful as god and stuff like that. Some weeks ago I came across this interesting link:

The problems with the bible

And some guy's answers and explanations to the problems.

Have a look if you're interested and don't start a flame war!

Not necessarily. :)

I would like to share some of my tricks for calming down.

-Press the X to close the window. Run out of your house and scream your lungs out.

-Watch anime.

-Create a text dokument and capswrite as many ugly words as you can.

-Chop wood.

-Go out for a long walk.

-Close all open windows on the desktop, turn on some calm music and turn off the monitor.

-Eat some food.

-Figure out a way to solve that complex mapping problem.

-Put up a picture of someone you hate on a boxing doll and hit it.

-Run over a pokemon with a Buick.

Ok, this is MY opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

I think the bible is just one big book of rules.
If i were a christian i would be ashamed, since it has caused so damn much bloodshed in the past.

Again, this is my opinion, feel free to think/feel differently.

I think anyone religious must have failed to notice the huge array of other, conflicting, religions. Why doesn't everyone just get on with this life, assume it's the only one we get, and make the damn most of it instead of squandering it to an "all-merciful God" who in that case should be most pleased with people not wasting what he may have given
us!

If people spent all the effort they do into religion and arguing about it on actually helping others as most of the "holy books" say, the world would be a far better place.

Mmm, italics.

Now the Bible:
(Simplified)
Die First, Be happy Later (Hevn)
Err.. I'll go with the former.

Why not be nice now, and live life, and forget about dying in order to get to something you don't know.

I like life, and i'd like to do that whole "living" thing for as long as i can.

I also agree with 7th somewhat. there is way to much effort being put into church and religios traditions and not enough helping people. churches have their place but there is too much focus being placed on them. just look at some of these multi million dollor churches, do you think that makes God happy? the bible does not command us to build extravagent places of worship. maybe thats beside the point, i dont know. im no expert

The bible of Christianity is supposed to be the perfected moral code
Not really. The Bible is a group of different books. Although I believe that it is a book of God, humans tend to make errors, and somehow things also might have been slightly changed in the translation from language to language.
we're supposed to be as merciful as god and stuff like that.
I don't think its humanly possible to be as merciful as God. We are suppose to be reverent to God, kind and lowering ourselves to others, and also be kind to ourselves. Thats just my interpritation.
No matter what, this will turn into a flame war, one I will not participate in.
It only will if we make it one. Lets discuss things without being irresponsible ;)
I think the bible is just one big book of rules.
If i were a christian i would be ashamed, since it has caused so damn much bloodshed in the past.
A book of rules it is, although it is more than that. The word of God is intended to us so that we may live better lives in preperation for our eternity in heaven.

Also, no-where that I have seen in the Bible does it ever incourage bloodshed. What bloodshed are you specifically talking about, because Jesus came here for peace on the world. If a Christian killed someone because of his religion, he shurly got something wrong. "Though shalt not kill"
Why doesn't everyone just get on with this life, assume it's the only one we get, and make the damn most of it instead of squandering it to an "all-merciful God" who in that case should be most pleased with people not wasting what he may have given
us!
God wants us to be happy in this world. God wants us to be kind to others, and to live a good life. God lets us enjoy this world. It is a gift to us. In Genesis, which I recently read over again, God gives us everything to us. Genesis 9 is where God gives us meat (Which I showed my vegiterian friends ;) )

Waste what? What are we wasting that he gave us?
If people spent all the effort they do into religion and arguing about it on actually helping others as most of the "holy books" say, the world would be a far better place.
We do help others. That is part of our religion. We put effort into helping others. I spent over 5 hours last week building houses with Habitat for Humanity so that some people can have a nice home. This is done through the Church. I also spent time making food for the homeless people that we bring into our church and give a place to sleep for the Room In the Inn program. I even donated a watercolor painting I highly liked to the Habitat For Humanity auction so that they could raise money for the program. Friends of mine went to live in Africa to help the people their have good living conditions. Everywhere, Christians are helping others, using the example that Jesus Christ set for us. Please don't take us the wrong way because of some people during the Crusades who thought it would be cool to kill people :( .
just look at some of these multi million dollor churches, do you think that makes God happy? the bible does not command us to build extravagent places of worship. maybe thats beside the point, i dont know. im no expert
I agree with you there. I do not agree with those Churches who make those multi-million dollar places of worship, rather than using it to help suffereing people. Although I do not agree with giving money directly to troubled people, we need to channel that money to them by, lets say, getting them jobs, or making them homes, or babysitting their kids so that they can go to work.

I hope that you guys don't get mad at me again for posting my religious beliefs, and please do not misunderstand Christians. There are so many of us, over 1/3 of people claim they are Christians, but I'm sure some of them have the wrong idea, although they mean good.

Thanks for listening.

and BTW, that bible isnt the real one.

It is a re-write by some king (i forget the name) and gets rid of some important things. These things are written in the lost Sea Scrolls that arent being released.

It talked about how Jesus was dark skinned and married.

The davinci code is a book that says jesus was married...

And yes jesus did have dark skin, he was only born in the middle-east, one of the hottest places on earth.

And so do I Alex :)

The Da Vinci code was an interesting book, although I do not agree with some of the stuff in their. Most of it was just conspiracy to make us think about who really were these people.
yah, but the bible says he was light skinned. I think...
And he WAS married...
actually, the Bible says that Jesus was a Jew, so he would be of that race. Since he lived in the Middle East, he probably was a little darker skinned. Why does it matter anyway?

I do not think that Jesus was married, and the claim made in the Da Vinci code is definetly false. Jesus was not married to Mary Magdelin. Just because he had a female follower does not mean that he was married to her. But yes, she was a whore before she followed Jesus.

ok stop the argueing u too, lol. ok I know none of u know me but this is an interesting topic for me. I was born half jewish/half christian but truly I am agnostic(sp?). Its simply because I have never been to church or temple but maybe 8 times in my life. But it is in my opinion that all rleigion is a (plz dont get angry at me) waste of time. People need something to believe, people dont want to believe that what happens, happens, and that they cant do anything about it. So they take up a belief in someone that cna change something, a higher being. Now, I'm not gonna say whether I believe in god or not, or my beliefs on the bible, or anything, I am gonna generalize religion. Now some people overemphasize on this higherbeeing. For many, having a beliefe in god is great. It helps them get up and go, it gives them strength, its helps them move on. But (IMO) religion has done way more harm then anything else. skinheads, neo-nazies, WW2, the crusades, all related to religious prejudice. and lets think aobut this for a second. One random day, a savior was born, and he could turn water into wine and when he was dead, later his grave was found without him inside. He wrote a book, a simple interpretation of his beliefs. Now how can we take something so vague, something so simple, and turn it into the number one thing in the world. We need somethign to believe in thats why. If it weren't for religion we would have a lot more suicides. But if it weren't for religion we would have a lot less hate in the world. Personally, I would rather omit relgion. I would like to stop believing in god and start believing in myself, but that is hard, nearly impossible. I even find myself praying to god for a kiss fomr a girl or a good grade on a test. Me, I am not religious, I think it is all too phony but even I do osmetimes. But not just that but the people who take religion to the extreme, like people who spend everyday worshipping a god who has done nothing in return to you. "Oh, my father fell down the stairs and should have borken his neck but he didnt, thank you jesus," no sorry, thats physics. "I passed my test, thank you god," you just got lucky, sorry. You are wasitng you life, stop believing in this "fiction" and start believing in you, see where that takes you. That is just my opinion and sorry for the spelling. Sorry if I offended anyone

I think it's in a uncensored version of the bible. Many churches do not want to see god as a harsh and cold killer and has therefore maybe decided that certain texts shall be left out.

Now lets argue for Adding and changing some information to suit some people. Multiply that by by 2005, and get the bible. Not exactly concrete information. :zonked:

The Bible was changed over and over to suit the times. Anyone who has trouble accepting that really needs another mindset.
