i have hollowed out a block ( because i want it to become a building duhhhh! :P ) and i want to cut blocks out of it EG. i want to cut a part in the front section so that i can insert a door and i want to cut higher up parts to insert glass and holes that people can look through. HOW DO I DO IT CHAMONE ?

carving. but it is shameful. advanced mappers NEVER use carving. nobody should. my advice is 2 make every wall a sperate brush, since u already hav the room, just ungroup it. then make many seperate brushes forming the holes u want 4 doors n windows. then make brushes for them using the appropriate textures. the rest can be found in our many tutorials. ;)

but that takes long :( all i did was make a masive block then hollowed it and it has walls and i thought there was a way to cut it but now u have put it that way i have to make every wall and every hole myself :( whats so bad about carving and how do i use it? CHAMONE :P

put a brush the size & shape of the hole u want in the wall u want the hole. click the small block, right click and choose carve. now u got a hole. but b warned carving can cause real problems when u use it more. my map nihilanth is full of carving problems. making every wall and every hole urself is however, better.

No, no, Neo, I know what you mean. Just that's how mapping for Unreal Tournament works - there's no nasty void, it's all carving.

ok thx for advice it works but ANOTHER PROBLEM this block that will soon become a buding is dull and i want little textures bording the sides to mark out diff floors :D HOW DO I DO IT MR REINDEER MAN ?
Posted 20 years ago2003-12-20 19:16:39 UTC Post #8625
theres a block with different coloured sides at the side of the screen on the toolbar. click it the click the wall u want changed. click browse then choose the texture than click add. then adjust it. a good way 2 do that is click fit then change X to 1.00

Hehe, this was one of my very first mapping questions way back in April sometime. There isn't an easy way except for to make spiral staircases; use the Arch tool then.

if u want spiral stairs use the arch tool. under primitives choose arch. hen when the window comes up after making the brush u should b able 2 work it. call me if u dont.

no not spiral stairs yet :D and this is my first map based on the fight scene BURLYBRAWL in the matrix reloaded( neo vs 100 smiths) SH*T i just gave away the map :/ oh well. I want normal stairs that u walk up like in ur house ,etc :P not spiral or upside down ones or anything else lol . Is there any qicker way to make them then copy and pasting the same step. (ie I DONT KNOW HOW TO USE ARCH TOOL)

is unreal mapping like deus ex mapping. I remember when i used to map for DX- the whole map was filled with solid then u carved bits out. Isnt that a lot more sensible than hammer cos u neva get leaks.

NONONO IM TALKING ABOUT COUNTER STRIKE AND IS THERE A QUICK WAY TO MAKE STAIRS!! NOT SPIRAL ONE ahh screw im gonna make ramps.... :/
Posted 20 years ago2003-12-20 22:52:24 UTC Post #8660
well wat u do is make each step and individual brush. a trick i found with using the same brush over again is to copy. make 1 step, copy it, paste it, copy both and paste them, copy the 4 brushes and paste them ect ect. it speeds up the buiding of multiple brushes.

(btw, my house is victorian, so it has spiral stairs ;) )

You can shift-drag brushes to duplicate them. Try it. Now ;)
