**News-o Matic**

I got this annoying msblast virus earlier!!! GRRRRRrrr! Luckily I managed to fix it easily. But, does anyone know how to block it? I am using Sygate Personal Firewall and I have disabled the ports Symantec said I should disable. A suggestion to everyone: ALWAYS USE A FIREWALL!!!

In other news, I HAVE BROADBAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Calm down!!!!!! ;)
Top recommendation: don't use IE or OE (Internet Explorer or Outlook Express) since they're the most common browser and mail client. They're also as exploited as, uh, any other Microsoft product.

Why not give Opera a go, for example? It really is an excellent browser/mail client, if somewhat unorthodox. Prolly scare everyone who's not been weaned from non-MS :x

i removed the file with a virus scanner and the damage to the RPC with the services console. It is soooooo east to remove!!! :)

IT DOESNT DAMAGE RPC FFS ARGHHH
All msblast does is forcefully close RPC, XP therefore goes 'oh bugger' and activates the auto shutdown unless you turn it off.

Now please use windows update in future..

no, it sends invalid data to the RPC so that it fails and opens a hidden cmd,exe so hackers can easily get into r computer as an admin and do what they want from the command prompt!!!

Win xp is amazing you retard. Win98 is ok. 2000 is good. 95 is the biggest piece of crap since giants started getting diarrhoea.

Does anybody know about a antivirus program that was made by some russians?
Posted 20 years ago2003-12-17 20:26:40 UTC Post #8153
i think you mean a virus ;)
Posted 20 years ago2003-12-17 20:29:14 UTC Post #8155
unless you meant 'SYSTEMANTIC LENIN VIRUS OPPRESSOR', or the hopelessly bad taste 'Shipman disk doctor' guaranteed to erase all data on your drive after telling you to lie down

Win2000 more stable than XP Pro. I'm afraid I can't agree with you on that! Just use XP's built in Firewall and run windows update every three weeks and you'll be safe. I've never had MSBLAST ;)

I now have two firewalls running on max security!!! Pretty good protection eh! And yesterday to test them, I port scanned myself from another computer that had a 2mbit connection and i purposly had all of my ports open and they werent even detected on maximum throttle setting in nMap(the BEST port scanner, but difficult for noobs)!!! Now, that is extreme protection!!!!!!! :)

I have a firewall and an icewall

I don't see the point of 2 firewalls unless you think stopping traffic at your computer as well as your router actually helps, not that it will

Same. That's like protecting your family with two empty guns instead of one. Wierd analogy, huh?

It's evil. Advice: if you value your freedom (i.e. breaching copyright  ) then do not get Longhorn. Ever. Linux!!

grr. you and your boradband using FOOLS! us modemers are protected by the fact that for you, virus's are more common since they download themselves faster! with my 29k connection i am protected from viruses by the fact they take 15 hours to download!(eg, steam)
