What is the difference between normail compile and fast compile. It looks the same to me in game. (I know it is not the same) What things does it not do when I use fast compile? I noticed when I do a regular compile it does "Portal vis" and it takes FOREVER. My map will take an ungodly amount of time to compile. Is it worth it to do a normal compile? Does it like increase FPS when I do a normal compile? What are the benefits?

Fast compile is for testing maps only...Of course you can play maps in Gmod with your mates in fast because most Gmod maps are rushed...

But if you are working on a serious CSS map or HL2 map then normal compile is a must.

Maps will lag, lighting will not look proper etc...I don't know the details because I haven't bothered to learn them however just compile on normal...If your map takes ages then it is either not optimized well or it is far too detailed. Perhaps your map is wide open...They take a while.

My map is REALLY big. It is a DOD map. You can see a gameplay video in the maps and mods section.

You should always do a full compile for the final release of a map. Often gives better performance, nicer lighting, fewer VIS glitches, etc.

Should I leave it over night? It takes 100% of the CPU power though. I want to watch it and make sure nothing goes wrong. But it will take so long!

Leave it going overnight, then. Of course it uses ~100% of your CPU cycles, it's doing incomprehensible zillions of calculations.
