Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond is stable but remains seriously ill in hospital after he crashed a jet-powered car during filming for the BBC show.

The 36-year-old was thought to be driving at about 300mph on an airfield near York when he crashed on Wednesday.

The BBC, which is likely to be closely scrutinised, and the Health and Safety Executive will investigate the crash.

Top Gear co-host Jeremy Clarkson, who was visiting the hospital, said many motorists were "rooting for" Hammond.

God I hate that guy, he makes me nauseous. Top Gear sucks, too, as does all car shows.

the man is a legend. Best BBC presenter without doubt, and Top Gear kicks ass.

Yes Brainiac was rather crap, but that is beside the point

ok for all you yanks, hes a very cool TV presenter of the best car show in the UK. (UK tv is mostly over about 5 channels so shows are generally of way better quality!) very funny guy, and I cant imagine top gear without him! hes way better than bloody clarkson.

he also does an ok show called braniacs which aired in the US (saw it a few times there I think) but really you guys should be watching top gear. its awesome.

I've watched like half an episode of Top Gear. Couldn't stand it, t'was so boring. It's very similar to brainiac, in a way.

Top Gear is good, anyone who disagrees either doesn't like cars, or just doesn't have a sense of humor.

Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond has suffered a "significant brain injury" after crashing a jet-powered car at speeds of up to 300mph during filming.

Doctors at Leeds General Infirmary said they were "reasonably optimistic" the 36-year-old would make a good recovery.

The BBC, which is likely to face close scrutiny, has begun an inquiry. The police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are also investigating.

Cars don't give me a hard on. But Top Gear does as it is just non-serious fun.

Holy jesus who cares... I mean really.

Non-celebs or otherwise ordinary people are maimed, raped, killed, raped and killed, etc. everday, and nobody posts a thread for them.

And driving around at 300mph isn't the smartest thing to be doing either.

I need brainiac to live!
