I lost my retail Half-Life Game of the Year Edition CD Key.

Shouldn't put the bloody code on the flimsy CD cover anyway.

Am I eternally screwed or can you find out what it is?

You are screwe, believe me geezer.

Lost? Is it in the house... otherwise surely you could find it, depending on how determined you are!! :) Otherwise... screwed, sorry mate

Yeah... but it ain't gonna be 'readable' - encryted somehow. Thats why you used to be able to find Windows CD keys in the reg until XP...

or you pay 14$ at bestbuy...

You can use another serial (from BS or OpFor) to get all the games via Steam if you have the big GOTY package.

Thats what I thought I might try but I did that earlier and it boggles my mind how long that list goes.

My Dad is an artist and therefore my house is incredibly messy. Or at least, my room is messy.

What about not on Steam? Steams a bastard but I have OP4.
I can't use the CD key off of that can I?

lal, for nonsteam just use this serial:

3333333333333

thats 13 3's, btw :P

If you bought Opposing Force then yeah, you can use it, provided someone hasn't haxed it already.

Really?
How do programs realise that the serial is correct anyway?

Actually that might be complicated, who cares.

talking about steam:

with hl1 games, valve cant tell the difference between a, for example, opforce key and a hl1 key, so when you register a key on steam you get every game.

without steam:

if you do a CD install of half-life, you can use any serial, legal, keygenned, or my 13 3's method, it never connect to the internet to check if its legal. but you cant play online.

I thought you where having a lend but I'll try it.

Hey, I've never played online with HL1DM, I feel unprivileged :(

I'm not terribly desperate to know but I wanted to know if I could use it on another computer if I had to.

01234567890123 also works as a temporary CD-key. Unfortunately, it locks out the CD music.

I can give you my real CD key for it if you want... I NEVER play online, so it wouldn't know it had been copied?

Basically, steam is a pile of steaming horse shit - the worst invention I have ever seen. I think it totally ruined Half-life, there was never any need to make it compulsary in order to play it. Total lack of regad for those on Dial-up - they are just a bunch of greedy, money-grabbing cnts.

Clearly you haven't seen many inventions.

:) lol. Nah... I'm not too keen on it, but its definately improved. Atleast you can know actually play the games without going online - those who remember steam in its early days, it was a right bitch to use!

The only reason I got my cracked version of HL2 in the beginning was because my comp wasn't online so i couldn't play legit - but obviously I couldn't get the SDK or play online...

Meh, I think anyone who bitches about a program as much as Jahzel obviously has little better to do.

You cant use OP4's CD key with steam, it's some gay thing they've implemented saying "because it comes with Half-Life, you can't use it again", or some crap.

I've tried it before, unless it's just me getting the shaft.

They're just too lazy to implement OP's CD-Key system.
Posted 17 years ago2007-06-13 13:12:52 UTC Post #225116
there is a command that you can type in the console to find your CD-key if you have it installed anywhere.

The old GOTY version doesn't check if it's been used or not.
Posted 17 years ago2007-06-13 15:18:08 UTC Post #225135
For old GOTY you can just use 5555-5555-5555 or something :P.
