At first I thought they're green pine cones. When I took a closer look I thought they were mucus stalagmites...

The Cstriker has led a sheltered life, and thus does not use the ganja as one of his holy sacraments ;)

I like the smooth lighting and custom textures, but it's all too clean and bland.

Mirror's Edge?
Posted 12 years ago2012-06-16 17:26:15 UTC Post #307157
I think it looks great, but unless it's pre-disaster, it could use a few more bulletholes, bloodstains, and broken lights. (Though I assume that by the time you read this you'll have already put those details in)

Extremely WIP. Threw it together in about 30 minutes to test the new textures. This area will be pretty messed up when it's done. :P
Mirror's Edge?
No. I just added some colours that weren't grey or brown. Also, Mirror's Edge tends to stick to 2 tone colour schemes.

The new textures being clean and flat tiled floors and the color red?

[EDIT]
Found what it needed.

The textures aren't just solid colour. They have a very slight grunge overlay. The dark trims are also wooden.

All textures used in The Core are original and will not be made available until the mod's release. You could of course make your own :3

Thanks.

I'm thinking of using this modern style for the penultimate chapter of The Core. Modern interior design style with focus walls for a splash of colour. Should make for interesting lighting too with Vluzacn's tools. :D

HLDM update

Did another hour or so of mapping today. No new media as I ran out of time to compile and now I have a sad face.

More DM_Waterlogged progress.
Seems I have a time limit to get this done now. The company I work for has announced that they are closing. Seems I am now redundant. :(

You gonna try to stay in the same field or reinvent yourself on a new career path? (you didn't seem very happy at that job)

On the screens, am i correct you and archie made all the alpha maps for the core, and now you are going through and black-mesa-sourcing them to perfection?

Sorry to hear about the company, but the map looks good. And if you have to wait for an interview or look for a job after your current one is gone, that's just more time to map, right?

We're still completing all the websites we can but I am attending interviews starting tomorrow. Regardless of how that one goes I will be finishing at the current place next Friday, as they cannot guarantee payment after that and I can't afford to waste petrol money driving for an hour each day for no money.

I will map as and when I can but I have started removing mods and other bits from the work PC. I'll work on the DM map to the bitter end and then maybe bring it home to work on whenever.

I find it easier to do natural setting by doing all of the terrain, then place plants from smallest to largest. Also, use lots of blending textures and paint in additional textural variety. At least that's how I do it for L4D2.

I think dimbark may be my new favourite mapper if he continues on this upward trajectory, i really like your style ;)

Good advice from rimrook i'll try to take it myself =)

Heres's a pointless wip for a low-poly, security camera prefab, built using the lathe method:
User posted image

*the pretty domes on the cameras are func_reflective_glass.

It only took 5 minutes to build and scale the brushwork, but a bit longer attempting to texture it right(crap lol always forget smoothing groups) :P

Posted 12 years ago2012-06-24 22:45:57 UTC Post #307384
You should Propper it, and probably lose the func_reflective_glass. It'll absolutely bugger any water in your map.

Very neat little prefab.
