The long awaited first trailer to the upcoming Watchmen movie is finally up online! For those of you who are not acquainted with the Watchmen, the movie is based on a graphic novel written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons, and published by DC comics. What also makes this movie so potentially great and special is the fact that it is being directed by Zack Snyder, the same guy who also directed the movie 300. I tell you what people, by the looks of it, they went all out on the FX and then some! It looks so freaking epic! Well, see for your selves:

Just watched this on FirstShowing and hated it, personally. Looks like a mess, and reminds me of that god awful movie 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen'.

Also, Zack Snyder.. no thanks. 300 is a trashy movie and Dawn of the Dead is instant fail being a typical zombie movie and all.

Hah, it's awful.

The fact that Connery tried to pull out mid-production says a lot about it. ;)

Well, I never saw it on release, only on TV and I didn't know about any of that stuff until after I saw it. I enjoyed it as a simple film.

The Dark Knight Rocked.
Just saw it tonight.

No this is not off topic because this was one of the previews for the film. I'd kinda like to see this movie. I'll have to check rottentomatoes first.
Being an American citizen i cannot think for myself.

I'm just kidding.
I just got done reading World Crafters last journal.
Gave me some lulz to read how so many things lead to Anti-U.S. Topics.

I'll STFU now. ;)

That'd explain your love of the last two Matrix films then.

I liked the league.. aswell. Just because it was a simple movie doesn't mean it can't be entertaining.

looks like an interesting movie, some characters were pretty terrible though. looked like it had a hint of bioshock :/

edit: oh and as a comment on the FX, they weren't even that great.
Posted 16 years ago2008-07-18 11:15:05 UTC Post #252624
Doesn't look too promising. Like most all superhero movies, reeks of mediocrity and tackiness. The fact that the director did 300 is not really something positive either... 300 was pretty crappy too.

Oh, and the Leage sucked, a lot. Simple doesn't mean bad, but simple also doesn't ensure it's not annoyingly crap.
Posted 16 years ago2008-07-18 11:26:03 UTC Post #252625
Looks very mediocre, i would say they cut the budget on FX. Heck, if they got the 300 director then its obvious that this movie does not have a big budget.

I saw the preview before the Dark Knight, it just looked bad to me.

It looks like an awesome movie! Looks like it will be simple entertainment with a slightly gothic feel, like Burtons batman movies, which are awesome too.

Also, the league was awesome and the Dark Knight looks like it's AWESOME! Haven't seen it yet, but I'll buy it when it's released.

To all who said this movie is not good: The way I see it, the final word on if it's good or not, will be decided at the box office, and not by anybody else's opinion, period. If the movie does not sell enough tickets during it's first week in theaters and it becomes an obvious bomb at the box office, than yes, it must be crap, because the people in general said so by not going to see it. Now, if the movie opens at #1 and takes in more money than it cost to make it in the first place by the first weekend, just like the director's other movie "300" did, then yea, it must be a great movie, since this is where the people will give their collective "Two Thumbs Up" through their wallets. So.......anybody out there has the balls to argue with this "Money Talks, Bullshit Walks" logic I just laid down?
Posted 16 years ago2008-07-19 00:24:43 UTC Post #252649
That's a bullshit theory. Crappy movies rack up large audiences all the time. Doesn't make them good at all, just means a lot of people were stupid enough to go see it. It doesn't even mean they liked it, because you can't really know if it's good before you see it, now can you? On the flipside, plenty of good movies have bombed, too. Does that make them crappy movies in your mind?
Posted 16 years ago2008-07-19 01:04:06 UTC Post #252650
Okay then, let's have it you way, Mr. Srry. Crappy movies rack up large audiences all the time, while plenty of good movies bomb too. I will buy that. Now, let's jump to opening day of the Watchmen movie: (possible outcome) Wait, what's this.....not enough viewers? Low ticket sales?.............SHIT!........The movie BOMBED!
I guess you were right, or were you? This is the way I will put it back at you: I will file this under your folder (Quote) "On the flipside, plenty of good movies have bombed, too." Does that sound familiar?

edit: at the boxoffice

To Kraken: Well, you know what, when I run "boxoffice" through my spell checker, it rejects it as a typo. It instead gives me two other options to choose from:

1. box office
2. box-office

Funny thing, uh?
Posted 16 years ago2008-07-19 01:28:07 UTC Post #252654
People make typos on the internet?! OMG NO WAY. I never knew.
Thanks for pointing out that vital piece of information.

That's the thing, I did not do a typo! At least, not according to Word's spell check. It gave me two correct spelling options to choose from, which I did.

And another thing....

How did this thread deviate from talking about the Watchmen trailer to some non-existing typo? Strange........

because you blurted out some crap about microsoft word.

Its geared toward fans, no worries.

Its really not fair to put Watchmen on the same platform as the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Both focus on an array of heroes instead of just one, but that's really where the similarities end. They're totally different, I wouldn't even know where to begin.

I'm sorry, but this doesn't make any sense to me, as I didn't say all movies that bomb are good (srsly WTF?), and you're still attempting to make a connection between a movie's financial success and its public/critical acclaim.

Dudes! Here's my theory on how to tell if a movie is good or not, sence you obviosly can't agree on how you tell the shit from the goods.

Did you like the movie?
1. Yes
2. No

1. The movie was good, you liked it. People may disagree with you and think that the same movie was crap, you are both correct.

2. You did not like the movie, it was bad. People may disagree with you and say that the movie was good, you are both correct.

It's all a matter of opinion, thank God. A movie can get really poor ratings and reviews which means that most people think it's bad, how ever, this does not mean that the movie is bad. If you think it's epic, it's epic. If your friends thought it sucked, it sucked. Nodody and everybody is correct.

3. A highly payed movie critic says otherwise.
