Mushrooms always make steak taste better, but onions? What are you doing to that perfectly good steak, man?!
Posted 16 years ago2008-08-28 22:31:05 UTC Post #254678
rare, yuk. I prefer mine very well done. And what's wrong with onions, if you cook the steak with the onions you get much more flavor out of your meat. I know this as i worked as kitchenhand with an international chef for a while and he showed an interest in teaching me many things...

Trust me on this one, World Crafter....Lots of fine restaurants will serve you your steak with onions or mushrooms or both. I myself worked for more than 3 years as a line cook in a upscale bar & grill and I can tell you this: If I ever put out a steak without the onions topping, I would have received the biggest bitching out ever by the restaurant's owner. If I did it a second time, I would have been fired on the spot, no warning given. For some people, steak and saut? onions is a religion, simple as that!

Maybe its because we're from two different countries, but I've only been to one place that I know of that serves steaks with onions. I'm defnitely not about to get into an argument with a chef, though.
Either way, I usually do my own steaks :P

Also, Hotdog, if you've never tried a bleeding steak(not necessarily rare), you have to try it. Contrary to popular belief, its not any less healthy than eating a well done cut, and the taste is radically different. Its not like chicken; The bacteria is all on the outside.

Well that's why I do my own steaks
Nothing wrong with that either. In fact, I rather do my own steaks too, and I prefer to cook them over charcoal, to get that smokey taste.
Posted 16 years ago2008-08-28 23:02:51 UTC Post #254682
I've tried a semi-rare steak and I didn't like it. It was too moist and squishy. I like my steak dry with tomato sauce and slightly tender, usually seasoned with some pepper and sometimes a tiny sprinkle of nutmeg.
Posted 16 years ago2008-08-29 01:00:56 UTC Post #254683
I will eat a steak so long as it is simply cooked! I don't really care how well done it is, but if you put mushrooms or onions on it, you're getting a steak in the face.

A veggie pizza. My gf is a vegetarian so I've been eating a lot of veggie stuff lately. Some of it is actually quite tasty, like the aforementioned pizza. I still like meat too much to stop eating it though.

Saribous: We're in the same boat there :P

As for steak, keep your bloody mushrooms. I don't eat fungus. It grows on dead people.

The best steak meal I've had is at a little pub near Market Drayton (my old home town) where they serve a 10oz Rump Steak with chips, onion rings, peas and a tiny portion of salad that I give to my missus.

LUNCH!
I was playing GTA4 so I kept it simple.

2 Scotch Eggs (awesome gaming food)
A snack bag of M&M's (Theres only like 15 in there! Bloody diet)
A Muller One-A-Day yoghurt (expensive and more tasty version of a Muller fruit corner)

Also, I once heard a comedian say this and to this day it still makes me giggle.

"Only a Scotsman could come up with a scotch egg. Reason being that only a Scotsman could look at a boiled egg and say: "You know what that egg needs? MEAT AND BATTER!" :)
