Coincidentally, neither do at least 85% of our own politicians.

Try to ALWAYS keep your head on a swivel. if the attacker get the jump on you, you won't get a chance to pull your side arm. =(

A friend of a friend of mine got jumped from behind. they bashed his head in so bad, he now is saddled with permanent brain damage and physical disabilites from the attack, for life. I don't really know him but i've seen him a couple times. he is really fucked up. =(

if you're carring i'd also recommend a small hammerless 38 or sum such for a backup(usually an ankle holster) Once you wear them for a while you don't even notice.

Wow, sorry for that guy. YOu'r right the best self defense is to always be aware and alert. Anything could happen at any second so be ready before it does. And assume the worst.

You'r right the best self defense is to always be aware and alert.
And apparently buying a gun gives you this ability but receiving professional training does not.

I have to receive professional training to carry the gun.
Posted 13 years ago2011-08-08 07:57:21 UTC Post #297547
Professional training on how to operate a firearm. Not the same thing.
Martial arts won't protect you from a gun.
the best self defense is to always be aware and alert.
I severely hope you realize the extreme amounts of ignorance, idiocy, irony and contradiction that are packed into these two posts. I really do.
But then again considering you know absolutely nothing about martial arts, I'll just blame it on ignorance.

Sure, a gun will allow you to shoot somebody dead. Too bad you won't see him before he pulls on you, and you're absolutely right, martial arts will not protect you from a bullet whizzing your way. Neither will a gun. Only Kevlar Armour can. So why don't you just get a Kevlar vest instead?

Martial arts isn't the art of being aware. Its the art of paying a teacher too much money for bs you could figure out on your own.

I am a master, bow to your sense

And I guess you could bring pepper spray to a gun fight, if you prefer that method...

@luke, that was my plan. I'm 22 now and haven't gotten my own pistol yet but revolvers are a nice choice because of their lack of jamming and simplicity. Also they look sweet. I'd recommend atleast an eight shot though.

You're a effing idiot.

I seriously don't get why you're getting a firearm.
Recieving professional SD training is not a substitution for having a firearm as protection, but having a firearm as protection doesn't substitute for professional SD training. If you seriously think you can 'figure out' on your own what proper training can do, then by all means go ahead mister NSA agent. I'd love to watch you fail and get shot, because that's what happens to idiots who think they can train themselves the same as somebody who's trained their entire life every day all day by a instructor who actually knows what he's doing.

If you're receiving professional training on how to point a gun at a target then that's all you're doing. You're just building your ability to bring up your sights and fire. That's it.

Also your supposed friend who knew karate is a complete idiot, here's to hoping he got the arrogance and ignorance beaten out of him.

Hell no. I'm getting a 44 or 45. If it was an 8 shot it'd be a 22 or something shitty.

9mm is the same as .357'ths of an inch. The .357 actually is longer and more powerful than the 9mm bullet though.

still does that same job though right?
i dont know about you, but i doubt i could/would actually shoot someone if i ended up carrying a gun or needing to use it to defend myself or whateve

you guys play way too many computer games with guns in them

in any case, in Australia the only real firearms a citizen can hold is like, single shot rifles and shotgun and you need like a full licence and police check, reason to own one etc etc.
even then, shops arnt allowed to sell flick knifes, knuckle dusters (or weapons like that).
therefore if your in a part of town where you feel like you may be in danger one night, or whatever, then you're simply told to "get over it". incidentally the ammount of assualts arnt very high (unless you live in sydney or melbourne where people allways get knifed at train stations)

After all this, I may just settle for mace and a knife. :tired:

This makes me think again.

If I carry I will get a taurus tcp .380. But also mace and a knife so I have multiple options.
Posted 13 years ago2011-08-11 08:46:53 UTC Post #297713
Why not just get a taser gun? I believe they can be purchased in the US, and they aren't considered a firearm, so no need for all the licensing stuff. Although I suppose that would vary from state to state.

Because ideally, you would want to wound your attacker so they can't attack you, not kill them ouyright.

@Jeff: So it's the same then? At least they're probably cheaper. And if you don't need a licence, that's the way to go. Guns are lethal just as well.

Funny you should say that. By old Swedish law you are allowed to carry a broadsword for defence purposes.
Posted 13 years ago2011-08-11 20:27:15 UTC Post #297748
At least swords were a fair fight. If you had some skill and experience, you could defend yourself fairly confidently. I can't imagine any situation where you'd feel safe at all when someone pulls a gun on you.

But you just try and get society back to them.

Decided I'll go with the Ruger lcp instead. She's a beaut. I will also carry a knife and mace.

Tazer is a decent idea too. Either way i'm buying the gun just to have at home.

This things smaller than my cell phone and carries 6 .380 bullets. They're almost the size of 9mm's. And I can get this gun for $300.

Compared it in the store to the taurus tcp and fell in love with the ruger. People made it's trigger pull look too hard on youtube but it was very easy and much nicer than the taurus'.

I always carry a knife, really as a tool. And the mace will be so that I don't necessarily have to resort to a gun in a self defense incident.

Good choice Zeeba. Funtional, subtle, small.

Now personally, I'd be walking around with a long bow if I could. How BA would that be.

Why can we walk around with guns but not longbows? I'd be down with paying for training and a license for it.

Same reason you can [In some states] buy a .50 caliber sniper rifle and a .50 magnum Desert Eagle but can't buy a big knife, BECAUSE YOU MIGHT JUST FUCKING HURT SOMEBODY!

Your gun laws in the states are ass-backwards.

@Blitzkrieg: How about a crossbow?
