I haven't posted a poll in a while, but sure enough. I got another one:

What mapping program do you use? Classic Worldcraft or hip-hop new Hammer for the young whippersnappers.

sorry for double posting but i see now, hammer did up, my bad
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-27 20:28:42 UTC Post #45684
It's technically Hammer 3.5 BETA. Not a final RC yet.

As for WC/Hammre, it depends for what worldcraft-editing based game I'm working with ;) . Swat3 doesnt like Hammer, so I have to use WC 3.3 for it, but for HL I use Hammer 3.5 Beta, model support is invaluable for making scripted_seqs.

i just dl it but yeah i know its a beta.......i found some pics where there was a tut explaining how to make monsters attack when you want them to.....it had hl2 textures and the antlion gaurd model.......AHHHHHH what does it mean
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-27 20:36:02 UTC Post #45690
I use worldcraft 2.0

(Just kidding)
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-27 20:36:17 UTC Post #45691
It means we use Hammer for HL2 editing...?

Posted 20 years ago2004-07-27 20:39:06 UTC Post #45693
hopefully or maybe they might have a HL2 HAMMER,
or Hammer 3.6 only for hl2 or something.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-27 20:57:17 UTC Post #45695
I believe VALVe has stated that we use Hammer for HL2, I suppose we will get a new version, and obviously new FGD files. Probably a new default prefab set, maybe more primitives (spheres would be nice).

spheres would be good to create domes, instead of going through it with all the blocks.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-27 21:39:09 UTC Post #45705
To be precise, I use Worldcraft 3.3, so I guess I'm just one step behind, but I sdont want to wait in a line to get Hammer.

VHE3.5 here
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-27 21:57:09 UTC Post #45711
I find Hammer 3.5 too buggy for me.

I use Hammer 3.4 SnarkPit edition (read the post on snarkpit forums). It has tutorials from the snarkpit intergrated into the help file (only a few atm though.)

Posted 20 years ago2004-07-27 22:04:21 UTC Post #45713
Hammer 3.5 is buggy right now, but only because it's a beta for now... it'll be better when it's full 3.5.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-28 04:45:05 UTC Post #45759
There's nothing classic about Worldcraft, it's just old and inferior.

I used to use SnarkPit edition but just stole the help file from it and use it in VHE 3.5 :D . The best of both worlds....

I do most work in Hammer 3.4, but when I place prop models Hammer 3.5b does a fine job.

iven never had any problems whit VHE3.5...

Hammer 3.5 rulz! Many cool options, not buggy at all for me.

(to see models unpack them from pack0 to models folder)

hip-hop new Hammer for the young whippersnappers.
Actually, those who are the most experienced mappers tend to use VHE 3.5. Those who insist on using WC 2.2 and so fourth are usually the 'Young Whipper Snappers' who want to look like they are experienced mappers but actually are not.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-28 14:05:54 UTC Post #45933
I opened a map in Hammer 3.5 and it ruined it when I compiled it. It send the wrong .map file to the compiler and overwritten the rmf with it making me lose all my work

If valve dont remove the carve tool in Hammer 4, they are dead!
m0p m0pIllogical.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-28 15:16:12 UTC Post #45967
You don't have to use it, MoP...

Hammer 3.5b has some problems with Pitch, Yaw and Roll. I nearly never use it because of it's beta status. For inserting prop models in maps however, it has proven to be a trustworthy tool... ;)
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-28 15:19:31 UTC Post #45972
Yes, but if they remove teh carve tool, it will prevent noobs using it and will lower the chance of them producing crap maps slightly.
m0p m0pIllogical.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-28 15:48:07 UTC Post #45985
The issues with pitch, yaw and roll will obviously be resolved as soon as the next hammer update comes (eventually)
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-28 17:15:39 UTC Post #46009
There is significance in Worldcraft! Its not buggy like Hammer apparently is.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-28 17:17:58 UTC Post #46011
Yes it is. It's old and people using it are needlessly hindering their ability to map.

Going back to the HL2 comments - if anyone has downloaded/played the E3 leak (pretty pointless aside from the model viewer to see how cool it all looks) you can find a new version of Hammer they're using for HL2. When you start it up they even have an MC Hammer sound clip, it's so funny
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-28 18:18:41 UTC Post #46036
I have got the new Hammer and I opened up a HL map in it. Gordon look like 3 times the size of teh normal player start entity. But, the textures showed up fine and I could create objects. Didn't try the new compile tools though as the level probably wouldn't even work in the leaked HL2.

Posted 20 years ago2004-07-28 18:29:39 UTC Post #46048
So you'd rather spend hours aligning textures? Well Hammer does that in less than a second. That is why mappers will use hammer. Among other improvements ofcourse.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-28 18:40:38 UTC Post #46064
Hammer 3.5 is great for aligning models. For instance a sitting scientist. Tricky stufff... ;)

i've found 3.5 a bit buggy. there's no editor animations for barney (at least not for me) but still good though.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-28 20:16:34 UTC Post #46144
Did you not read my post?

You have to enter an animation number to make Barney perform animations in Hammer. It's easier that way as the hgrunt and sci animation lists are b0rked for HD and SD models.

Hammer 3.5 Beta for me. There's nothing wrong with it, only some features are missing. Hell of a lot better than the old Worldcraft. Update already! There are compatibility issues between Hammer and Worldcraft, so if you're submitting rmf's made in Worldcraft, most people will get some sort of error opening it in Hammer. Get with the times people!

Valve hammer editor is the map editor for HL2. And i like that. :D

But you shouldnt be mapping for Half Life 2 yet unless you've have taken part in the THEFT OF THE SOURCE CODE!!!

Posted 20 years ago2004-07-29 13:00:44 UTC Post #46382
If you'd seen all of the media coverage you will understand that HL2's editor IS a new hammer. No-one has actually said that they are currently mapping for it, possibly using other 3D programs which may later enable them to convert their designs into HL2 format, whether or not this is true, I am pretty unsure, just merely speculating. :zonked:
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-29 15:42:18 UTC Post #46438
I made a hl2 map in the new hammer and the new compile tools didn't like it and it did output a playable map file but it crashed about 2 secs after running.
