For the mod maps that have their own folders, where should they be extracted to and how does one run the map?

Such as starshiptroopers or lab102. lab102 is in 'Unfinished Stuff.' Forget where starshiptroopers is.

you just unzip the zip into your half-life directory, the folders should be created automaticaly. But for some mods, if your runnin HL-Game of the year edition, they wont work. :(

and how to run the mod:

run the hl executable (.exe) and from menu choose custom game then choose the mod from the list, then choose new game or hazard course (etc.)

that should be it, if that doesn't work i could give you the directory structure of a mod, if that helps. :)

That did it, the Custom Game thing (for lab102 anyway).

And.. I was extracting it to half-life/valve and not half-life.

Thanks!

More generalized explanation:

Each HL game has a mod directory for the main game files, and additional ones for downloaded mods. These are in half-life, opposing force, counter-strike, etc. valve is Half-Life's mod directory, but other directories such as nsp (Natural Selection), si (Science and Industry) and SvenCoop (Er, SvenCoop) may exist if you've installed other mods via their installer programs.

Ah! That helps a lot RM. Is it the liblist file that identifies it as a mod directory?

Yup, as it holds the mod's name, and specifications to the start and training map, and whether it's multiplay only, which is all the engine needs to know to run the mod when you start it up.
