i got steam from that sight now but everytime i click on half life and click on internet games it says that it needs to search the internet for updates to the latest version but when it searches it says "Your version(1.1.1.0) of Half-Life is out of date but there are no updates to update it to the latest versin" ... WHAT IS WRONG ? ? ? please help

It means that it's out of date. Your version is the last WON version. This version does NOT work with Steam. You will need to download the Steam version of HL1 in order to play online.

Don't try launching an Internet game from the HL1 menu. Load up Steam, go to Play Games and register your CD-Key with Steam by hitting "Register a product I already own". After this, you will be prompted to download HL1, which is completly seperate from the version you've already got.
