I use Space bar and W,A,S,D for the perspective viewport (the 3d one)

You can't move objects in the 3D view: you need to do it in the 2D views.

Actually, you can nudge objects with the keys (assuming you've enabled it in Options, which I believe is still necessary) and they will move according to the angle you're looking. Try it.

I use 3D view for vertex manipulation,I didnt know that I could move them from 3D view. :

Saco: I find that to be fairly inaccurate though. 2D view for me.

VM is really nasty in 3D view (I started out doing that) - It's inaccurate and often results in invalid solids =[
