This is a little mapping project I'm working on.
I'm remaking the first chapter of halflife, adding mini-quests.
Like helping otis get donuts.

The detail is sufficent. How're the r_speeds? That door in the end of that hallway on the right is a bit ugly, if nothing else.

I like the idea. Will there be any combat or is it just running around and doing puzzles?

Oh, and I think should tune the lighting a bit.

Either make it a bit brighter like in the original or add one or two of those small red lights over the vents to light up the roof a bit and create contrast.

Don't like the caution stripes, lightage, or the door at the end, as mentioned. Last part's easy - give it some offset from the wall.

Lighting needs more contrast, as well. Remove the lights that are yellow, make hanging ones, and reddify the ceiling.

Caution tape can just be trim.

And perhaps some accent floor lights on the metal bits along the metal path would work.

I'm thinking of a pre-disaster part, with puzzles, and a part after the disaster, still puzzels but with combat involved.

It's better. Make the red light a bit stronger so it shows up and remember to add a glow sprite. They're a must for red vent lights. :)

Also, those yellow lights on the distance don't quite fit the theme. How about trying something whiter.

The door is still sucking. Add something around it like I've done here.

I kind of like the yellow. It's more of the color that would be from a bulb lamp, though. Something white or blue would work better.

An improvement though.

The double trims on those walls look a bit stupid. Replace the upper trim with some other texture.

Add some vents to the ceiling on the back. It's a bit too bare.

Deepen the ceiling with that black texture. Try making it a bit more angled.

What else... Add some more detail lighting like in the original map.

i like this remake stuff, it's going really nice.
The main room with the desk is cool. I like the pillars, they remind me of something out of starwars.

The previous screens of the corridor is nice, but the color tone of the doors don't match the colors of the rest of the room. I know there is a door of that type that matches in the HL.wad somewhere, if not, try make your own or use another door fixture.

I have a quite cool idea If random triggering is possible. Scientist being generated with monstermakers at startup, so at every level change the scintist would be doing something new.

The method used in that example only works with beams, so it's of no use to me.

Yes it is. You can use that to effect other things. Getting them to strike buttons with health set, perhaps? Not done it myself. I know it's possible, though; Slayer's used it in a competition map, I believe.

minor details have been added. that's better a bit better.
i noticed you taken off a trim to the base of the wall. i think it looks funny in a way. i also noticed that the angle of the slopes used in the trim are (i think) 45 degrees. i think this reaches too far out into the open space of your map. if i'm wrong, disregard this. (hard to tell from the screenshots) i see the door in the later screen doesn't have a doorframe, and if it's a specified area beyond that, throw in a sign next to the door. the center of your room just seems blah. maybe a bench would live it up. but what ever. :cool:

wait... who agrees with me that this would be a very fun compo. pick a scene from HL1 and remake that area. I would so do that. how about you guys?
