Some of you may remember my experimental map, cs_rain_field. Frigid take's the "huge open map" idea a little further by expanding the playing area of the map literally from one end of the world to the other(meaning this map is as wide as the engine will allow). I made this out of boredom, but I kinda like what came out. You really get a sense of being alone in this map.
R_speeds max out at 1300 on the top of the hill, but are around 600-800 80% of the time.
It takes 31 seconds to run the width of this map with a scout.
PS: Sorry for the crappy snowmobiles, I didn't put a lot of effort into them... or any other brushwork fo that matter.
And I know about the disappearing sky in some areas, mostly on hills.
Edit: BIG FUCKING MAP

For those who don't know, frigid =
-very cold in temperature
-unemotional or unimaginative; lacking passion, sympathy, or sensitivity
Extract to your cstrike folder, people. not /maps.
Well, there were some really good aspects:
+ Pretty original, and pulled off very well.
+ Seemingly endless world
+ trees
+ foggy atmosphere. like it.
+ r_speeds are very good for what it is
+ snowmobiles - well i liked them
But some downfalls as well
- since it was just the 2 of us, finding each other was nigh-impossible half-the-time. Probably be much better on an 18 man server.
- a bit blocky.. but acceptable
- lacking something... oomft.. I dunno..
- a little difficult to see which direction you should head in, especially with invisible walls everywhere.
I personally like it. 4 stars
It has to be some shitty Steam engine "update" or something, that's just perfect. Now the map loses half its essence.
It really needs some structures/objects throughout the area to help the players navigate. The snowmobiles let you get around more quickly, but that's really not enough.
If you added some ramps, more hills and more snowmobiles - it could be the one of the first decent-looking veichle maps.
Overall - the idea's great, though it still needs tweaking to play right.
