Saw WALL-E tonight. It's way better than a Pixar movie has any right to be, in my opinion (sorry Ant, they usually just lean too much towards the "family movie" end of the spectrum for me.) The annoying kids and piss-poor seating I got couldn't even ruin it for me.

Family-oriented or not, Pixar are still a level above all the other animation studios and their tiring social commentary. I mean come on, The Incredibles rocks! ;>

Looking forward to Wall-E, though we have to wait almost another two months for it. :/

Not sure how to put this, but I think you might find it a bit hard to argue that WALL-E doesn't have a large amount of social commentary after seeing it. Hell, you could watch the trailers and get that same impression.

That's not exactly what I meant. I was talking about all the the shitty celebrity and popular culture references you see in movies like Shrek the Third. They're just awful and unfunny.

I know Wall-E has a number of subtle environmental messages and in true Pixar fashion is probably loaded with hidden nods to their previous films. Things of that sort I have no problem with.

Strideh's right, and I think it's something that people don't tend to notice either. I almost don't see Pixar as 'just a branch of Disney': they're a unique company, and their films stand way above anything that Dreamworks dumps out in terms of visual storytelling and the stories in general.

Wall-E's getting critical acclaim at the moment, and so it should. Can't believe we have to wait till bloody August or September or something before we see it.

Wait, so Pixar films don't have a right to be good? :/

Heh. Wait till' August or September? Chances are, we won't even be seeing it this year. Hell, they started playing I'm Not There only recently here. :P

Toy Story is from Pixar right? Ah, I love that movie. I remember that they had a (perhaps Toy Story 2..) a 'shitty celebrity and popular culture reference' in that, which I might add, I found 1 of the most funniest jokes ever in a animation movie considering I laughed about it and still know that joke till this date on. "You killed my father!" "No Buzz, I am your father", obviously a star wars reference.

Emperor Zurg is epic.

Everything Pixar touches is gold. I'm sorry, that's just the way it is. They are the Valve of movie studios.

You killed my father!" "No Buzz, I am your father"

That's not bad. :P

If it were a Paris Hilton joke, however..

That was Toy Story 2, FresheD. :P

There were actually a fair few references in that film, but it wasn't taken up by them.

Pixar: Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille and Wall-E.

Toy Story (2) owned, I liked Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo. I didn't really like A Bug's Life however.. I also watched The Incredibles, but I can't remember shit 'bout that movie, so I figured that wasn't very entertaining either.

Pixar rocks.

Can't wait to see Wall-E. :>

Pixar is the shit. The Incredibles is one of the best animated movies i've ever seen, not mentioning how awesome Toy Story was.

"They are the Valve of movie studios."

Well said.

Wall-E is definitely my favorite pixar film to date. The little short film before the movie was funny as hell too. And the only old reference i picked up on was that you can see the Pizza Planet truck from Toy Story in the junkyard.

"Well, your names srry for a reason"

And what would that reason be? Because honestly I haven't figured it out yet. :S

Pizza Planet truck appears in all their films.

It would be hard for me to choose between The Incredibles and WALL-E, but this movie exceeded all my expectations. I've been calling my girlfriend "EEVEE-A" and trying to hold her hand ever since we've seen it; she's starting to get really sick of it. = P

"Can't believe we have to wait till bloody August or September or something before we see it."
August or September!? You might have to resort to BT or one of the web alternatives then. Still it's no substitute for being in the theatre.
