You can fix recoil by upgrading your gun. You'll probably find pretty quickly that you will have one gun to call your baby for most of the game.
I would recommend finding a walkthrough to find all the tools, because you MIGHT find ONE of the 6 sets on your own.
I'll tell you now that you won't find either of the 2 calibration tools until you reach Pripyat.

Also, find the Oasis. You'll never have to stock food again. Ever.

Got Shadow of Chernobyl, which is a great game, especially when modded. And I've got the prequel Clear sky, which was a huge disapointment. Is call of Pripyat any better?
