My computer's hard drive died so any map I was previously working on is gone. These include the {TZS} official map which thankfully I still have the unfinished version I posted on the {TZS} website, the small single player map I talked about in my last journal, what I had done for the competition, I'll just have to wait for the next one and I was excited about this one too :(, and worst of all the alien grunt lab remake for HL 1997.

Which is why you shoulf always back your work up on an external. I actually had an ancident not long ago where I started to suspect my newest external was dying. Some of my models were missing and weird stuff was happening and I'm still not sure...

But sometimes you just can't protect data. I read a blog where some dude had the exact same PC next to each other and made sure they were identical in content as well so if one failed, he could jump to the other.

Yea I realize that now which is why once I get my new computer, hopefully by the end of year, I'll backup my files to my netbook.

You can increase your HDD's health by defragmenting it. I have good habbit of defragmenting my hard drives every week.

Sometimes a dead drive can be revived using the SpinRite utility. Look on www.grc.com. It has worked for me to fix several drives. It's $80, but he has a money back guarantee if it doesn't fix the drive. It should work if the failure isn't mechanical.

I would do that if the computer was newer but it was old and time to get a new one anyway.
