OK so, I'm having fun with Construct 2, the game creator by Scirra. I have a couple of idea's I'd like to make with Construct, the question is, can i keep myself motivated to actually complete them. I don't know, we'll see.

So here's what I've made so far. My first attempt is a Dune 2 clone/remake/revisit.

Right now, all you can do is build and place a Wind Trap. Try it out here:
My Dune 2 clone/remake/revisit

If you want to try the original Dune 2 (the DOS version by Westwood Studio's), you can download a free copy here: Download Dune 2 from Abandonia
You'll need DOSBox to run it.

neat atom, i built a construction yard and i like the music! keep me uprised of updates and i'll test for ya.

is this like appinventor for droid devices?

I think you meant to say 'I built a Wind Trap' because the Construction Yard is already there and the Wind Trap is the only structure you can build.

Don't know what appinventor is but Construct 2 allows you to make games for mobile devices as well.

@DiscoStu: What browser are you using?

I'll gladly help you Atom considering I've been using construct for ages now and have delved into the RTS bit side of it. I'm going to assume that the ability to place everywhere and off grid isn't part of the game.

I'd really appreciate your help because there are tons of things i have no idea on how to do them, like battlefield scrolling.

As for placing structures and moving units, the plan is to make it all fit on a grid, but i have no idea how to do that.

The grid placement is ridiculously easy!
I found it hard to begin with but then realised it's a clever trick :

if you divide MouseX / Y by whatever the grid size is , say 32 pixels , then floor that value and then multiply it by the grid size.
something like (floor(MouseX/32))*32

So floor is my background object? IE the entire battlefield?
Commented 13 years ago2011-11-07 22:02:02 UTC Comment #38555
No , floor is a function which will round a number downwards. Say your mouseX position is 321. That's clearly off grid. What you are doing , is doing 321/32 - which comes to roughly 10.031. Now , that floored would be 10 exactly. 10 times 32 will give you ; 320. Again , say your mouse is at X 174. That's a little off 32!. Again , 174/32 gives you 5.4375. That , floored , is equal to 5. Then , 5 times 32 is 160.

As you can see , it will snap the mouse to the nearest 32 unit grid position. Use that to move say ,a ghost sprite.

I'll see if i can figure that out, math is not my thing.
Thanks. :)

Are you in my Steam friends list? If not, add me.

You under ATOM on the TWHL page? I'm going to assume so considering your avatar is AlizeƩ

That's me. Right now there's a major problem with the new release of Construct 2 so im not using it now.

Use construct classic for the meantime , then switch to construct 2. I'm sure C2 will be able to import C1 Content
