Laser cutter, 3D printer... What are you preparing for :D

Fun ;) Now if only I could find time to use them.

I hate you =p

Cool! Could you 3D-print the parts for one and send them to me?

That's actually what a lot of people do lol, i'd probably be willing to make parts for you if you were actually willing to build it.

I think I could make some cool mini competition prizes with this bad boy.

Zeeba, seriously?! DUDE, I'VE GOT A DESTINY GHOST MODEL.

YOU HAVE TO PRINT IT AND HELP ME MAKE MY OWN GHOST.
Commented 10 years ago2014-08-22 11:46:25 UTC Comment #40442
Are you saying people print the parts to build another 3D printer zeeba?

I really want to buy one of these, but I'm afraid I'll use it twice and never touch it again... Another thing that worries me is that I'd want to print gun parts, which I'm guessing without googling about it is extremely illegal?

I WOULD like to get one eventually doe, AND I would like to get a wide-carriage laser cutter too very badly =P
Commented 10 years ago2014-08-22 12:56:46 UTC Comment #40463
I want one too, but I wouldn't have anything to print :(

Ghost, you ever try converting your mesh to papercraft?
Commented 10 years ago2014-08-22 15:11:52 UTC Comment #40429
Yea I can probably make something "that" for you. It'll be a while before I get my printer though, I think two weeks after I order it. I'll keep y'all updated.

Also 3D printing takes a really long time. I plan on mostly using it to create casts for ceramics as I can't make pottery on the wheel with out it collapsing. I blame my wheel's lower rpm than Brent wheels...
Commented 10 years ago2014-08-22 17:16:35 UTC Comment #40461
CT, yeah, I've tried it, but you gotta realize that flipped models, especially when working with high poly models, CANNOT be made into papercraft... I have though, before, made some low poly models and printed them with Pepakura, but low poly is NOT my thing.. Especially since I model aircrafts for use with FSX.

And Zeeba, no worries, about your pottery wheel, low RPM? Give me specs on the Motor, Power wattage/etc. I do electrical works for buildings, R/C aircrafts, and etc, so I may be able to suggest ways to improve the buggers speed for you.

I mean, guys, if we can help each other, why the hell not? We should actually put a qualifications/skills section here and see how we can help each other. :P

"IT"/"THAT" Is a GHOST from destiny. c:

I would love to have one of these too, you ever mess with these at all Zeeba?
Commented 10 years ago2014-08-22 17:45:27 UTC Comment #40430
Cooul, will do. @Captain, not an automatic one but I've played with a stationary hot wire that you could run foam through.
Commented 10 years ago2014-08-22 18:49:15 UTC Comment #40451
Captain: I don't think 3D printing gun parts would be illegal, considering 3D printers generally just print in a soft plastic which would be completely useless for functional gun parts.

I suppose it would be of the same legality as having a lathe and iron working tools and making iron gun parts.
Commented 10 years ago2014-08-22 19:20:20 UTC Comment #40445
Stu from what I understand, you can use high-density plastic for more strength. There is a guy out there that printed a m4 assault rifle! ;)

SOME parts like the firing pin and I think a few other things are still metal, but the lower receiver(the only regulated part of the gun) is entirely printed afaik)
Commented 10 years ago2014-08-22 19:52:28 UTC Comment #40452
Insane!
Commented 10 years ago2014-08-22 20:24:27 UTC Comment #40440
iirc, in the US the only parts that there would be any issues printing would be the regulated parts. So for example the lower receiver of an AR-15.
And those are legal to home-build anyway as long as they're not illegal for other reasons (full-auto, etc.), and they're not being made with the intent of selling them.

I would love to get a 3D printer myself, but if I were to buy something like that I'd probably buy a hobby lathe first.
Commented 10 years ago2014-08-22 20:33:49 UTC Comment #40446
Yeah no matter what you could print some cool shit! I would love design/print my own paintball/airsoft/nerfwar guns...

NOW I WANT ONE YOU PRICK! =P
Commented 10 years ago2014-08-22 21:00:22 UTC Comment #40431
You can get a small lathe for a little over 100 bucks at harbor freight. I did and it's awesome.

Haha well this one is around 1300.00 USD which really isn't that bad.

Nah, 3D print us all hammers and we can all become Hammerites.

Or if they wind up too small, Hammer Bros.

SOMETHING WITH MASS-PRODUCED HAMMERS, DAMMIT

I'd like my printer to be fast, print clothes and pizza as well, so maybe I'll wait just a few more years? PRIZZA PINTER:p

The apex of shipping in the world will be attained when you buy something online and it's 3D printed in front of you without having to wait for it to be shipped. Also less large transport vehicles, less carbon monoxide!

I wonder what color I should pick. You can choose between black and silver metal and black, blue and red plastic parts.

Here's silver metal and blue plastic parts, couldn't find any larger images...

The more I look into these, the more I think I'm gonna wait for them to improve more before buying one.. I like the precision of these more, but I'm sure these come with their own set of problems/quirks too..

Considering your field and hobbies, I'm sure it's a good buy for you zeeba-G :)

I'm interested in the Gmax because of its print size being 16"x16"x9".
Commented 10 years ago2014-08-23 19:50:54 UTC Comment #40456
And for non-Americans that is 40x40x23cm. That's a much bigger space than the rest offer. Thicker resolution though. (75 micron, the one I posted being able to do 20)
Commented 10 years ago2014-08-23 20:24:24 UTC Comment #40434
It says 50 microns on their website, I think 75 microns was their preliminary specs they were aiming for before it was completed.

I just ordered it with silver metal and red plastic. I asked them if they could make my plastic bright green though instead. It's not offered but I've seen it online.
