All i did was make the wood a seperate door, and the 4 glass panels, one, yet seperate door.

I gave them the same entity position, named them the same. Same flags, rotation speed.. delay... render properties for glass was different (duh)
and i stuck a func_button which triggers both doors at the same time near the opening.

Set the delay, no move.. done.

I think that even if these things never get enough entries, they sure do force people to churn out really great stuff in a short amount of time. Two of my best maps would have never been made had it not been for the minicompos!
Yeah thats true.
The worst thing is tho im in florida right now, and my house is in connecticut. So its all based off memory.

Maybe if i get bored (probably will) ill throw in some detail to the appliances.
Btw those glass cabinets took me a good hour to troubleshoot.

There's a crapload of nutrients in magma. Only thing is its thousands of degrees hotter than most species can stand. (all on earth i beleive)

I just got the SETI @ HOME program today (Recommened by my intro space sciences teacher) and it downloads and decodes signals from the giant antenna from Puerto Rico when your computer's screensaver is on. A few hundred terrabytes of information have already been decphiered by hundreds of people.

I figure it'd be pretty cool to see if i find anything.

Well if that's the case then we all suck.
I forgot who said it, but it was on an episode of stargate one time (yeah, im obsessed with SG-1)

"The petty differences and wars between your countries will be nothing compared to what's really out there"

I beleive thats true for us too. We just havent figured it out yet.

yeah skyboxing is a no no

stick a fence around the house or something and then build the sky off of that and above the house..

or else you'd just be rendering a crap-ton of faces that you'd never see anyway.

If you're still having trouble, shoot the map into the problem map vault.

I dont get that whole tectonc plates thing.. Why is it so necessary for the core to be active in order for life to form??

Like.. what do moving plates have to do with growing some ferns on the red planet? And as far as i know, its possible to actually create an atmosphere on mars.

Since i started the thread and all, here are my views.

I do think we were once visited. If anyone has seen stargate you know what im talking about.

Something happened to spark interest into space. With the egyptians, the myans... Whoever built stonehenge.

How are they so perfect with such primitave technology? And stonehenge... the quarry those rocks were brought from is hundreds of miles away. How the hell did they get the rocks 1- to the location, and 2- stacked up like that??
Im not saying that aliens built either the pyramids or stonehenge, but maybe they did pose as gods, or even give them tips or blueprints (metaphorically speaking) to build such creations..

I dont think there's a cover up.

I mean: look what else they tried to cover up; watergate, and a whole bunch of other government scandals have been exposed.

There's spies everywhere too.. well not EVERYwhere, but as much as we dont like it there's actually spies floating around.

And remember the whole freedom of speech thing. you can say anything without the fear of getting shot (talking about USA here)

Can we change the entry rules... to like...

First 5 entries, or 3 weeks after the first entry has been submitted??

I think that's reasonable because it doesnt even loook like there's 5 people interested.

Okay. i'm just going to get rid of the sky. it'll cut down on some plans but it'll also save polies in the long run. Thanks for the heads up.

Okay. I lied.
Im working on the hallways as we speak.

But I just got finished downloading deathmatch classic. So i'll extract the wad from the pack and stick it im my custom wad i have going.
A question about custom skies :: Are they included in the .bsp?

The entrances aren't done yet, i just did that room, and no hallways yet.
Hallways are coming after i have all 3 rooms finished.

Where can i get the wad from DMC?

And where can i get a better sky texture. As i know i need one, i cant seem to find one anywhere.

I didn't work on the map today at all, im gonna start right now (I had band practice then went bowling)

And then im goin out later, then i need to pack because im flying back to florida tomorrow so an update might not come until late tomorrow if at all.

At this point i want to get a playable map and THEN i'll worry about r_speeds

Hmm.. any suggestions on the hole in the roof besides getting rid of it?

Any idea where i can get custom skys?
Im thinking like an overcast, or really dark looking cloud.

I was also thinking of making the lava emit light (texture lighting)
Ill compile and see how it looks.

I'll tone down the light spot and use it for ambience

EDIT::

I completley agree with Kasperg.
I love mapping for half life one because sometimes i get ideas walking around or even in class sometimes, so i hop onto my laptop and map them out real fast just to see how they look.

Most of the time i just dont feel like opening steam to get to the sdk to get to hammer. And then you have to load hl2 after each compile and yadda yadda.

I takes too long to map for hl2 (for me) because i usually run a test compile every 5 minutes or so.

Plus i've gotten to know the Goldsource engine so well that moving on to source would almost be like starting from the beginning, and i dont want to do that.

I've been messing around with models and displacements, and sometimes i just make a group of physboxes above an env_explosion just to see how far they launch, but thats about it.

All the inputs and outputs scare me.

I got an idea after playing through GEARS OF WAR

A deathmatch map inside a volcano.

It will (like all my other maps) feature the halflife2.wad that Rimrook ported.
Layout is simple. 3 Main chambers with 3 different height levels.

It will be somewhat of a large map, but when i detail out all the paths, it will be more straight foward, hopefully open enough to function.

http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/8454/dmmagmalayoutep5.jpg

I already have one room basically done.
Screen Shots of Chamber one::

http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/5700/dmmagmayt5.jpg

http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/7579/dmmagma1om3.jpg

Hopefully i can keep the polies down so people can actually handle playing it on older machines.
