i like the lead up to christmas... the octobers and the novembers. leaving for school at 7:30am. the grass's due is just starting to freeze so you get a lovely crunch walking on it. and the air. the air is at its purist in a cold morning. sharp and crisp. beautiful.

Christmas itself? i like presents certainly.

Chapter 10 - Thought Massacre

Sweating feverously, y'ato once again tried to morph but it was impossible. He had known from his first try that it was impossible but had kept attempting to anyway.
And suddenly, there was that sharp pain again. The power that he felt when angry or scared. The power that had been given to him when he put his arm in the Sacred Pedastal all that time ago. The power that only yesterday had made him morph into a dragon, bigger than anything he had ever achieved before. He felt it welling up inside him, knowing that it was trying to morph him against his will aggain. He screamed at the pain. It felt like he was being pushed into an invisible wall from the inside out. The magically bound ropes held and the pain grew greater and greater.
"You'll have to do more than that you fool!" The voice inside his head was back.
"NO!" Y'ato screamed inside his head, "I got rid of you! You don't exist! Your a liar!"
"Just ask for help. It's all you have to do. Then i'll give you enough power to break out of these binds"
Y'ato knew that if he gave into the voice, he would lose all sense of good and bad. He would become no better than Seltor.
"Just ask! ASK!" The voice seemed tempting. Soothing.
"N-never!" Y'ato was crying in spite of himself, "I will NEVER JOIN YOU!"
The power welled up more. An explosive rage at Seltor drove his instinctive morphing abilities higher than ever before and The bind broke. There was an explosion and the next thing Y'ato knew he was falling. The ground was covered in white things. Clouds. He was above the cloudline and falling fast.
But then without even thinking about it, Y'ato decelarated.
He stayed perfectly still, hovering in mid air. Y'ato looked down, to see what beast he had morphed into but saw nothing. No feet. No Talons. No Claws. He tried to move his hands and found he had none. With his mind alone, Y'ato moved forward. Could it be true? Was it possible? Had Y'ato morphed into a higher being?
He zipped down to Earth in a mtter of seconds and looked for a water source. Finding one, he looked at his reflection. A pure yellow glowing ball looked back.
erm.. hmm.. Gargly?

I figured it out. One of my textures turned out to have a "!" in front of it's name, causing every block using it to become a solid block of water - that's not good. I renamed it and fixed it.

A tough one to figure out, vague error that usually shows up when you start the game or during compile, or even when WC/Hammer starts up - you have gone over the memory limit somewhere for some reason. It can be too little RAM (128M is about minimum), a leaf saw into leaf error, too long pathnames, too many textures, too big a level, too big or too many model/sprites, too big a wav sound file - or it could be that old "too many wads" mistake, a huge "noob" brush around the map to prevent leaks, too many SKY faces on hidden brush faces in the level - or even something else. Example: In early versions of NS, the 3D area info location entities were a major cause.
If it happens during compile, do not use WC/Hammer to "run" the map, but use a front end or batch file to compile with. You could also get more RAM.
(The following may still be handy, however be aware that Software mode allocates memory dynamicly, so it may automaticly seem to "fix" any error. Therefore the following info MAY lead you into a dead end:
Some brush-based entities have rendering properties that, when they interact in OpenGL/D3D video cards, they crash. Switch Half-Life to Software mode first, then load the map. If it loads you now know it is something that is handle different in software, then for Opengl/d3d check water, glows, additive, sprites, transparencies (illusionaries, windows, ect.), env_beams and so on.)

If it happens in opening a level in WC, it may be you have an animating model showing in one view. You must switch to single view instead of multiple, and try different ones until you get past it.

a few people have asked why I have HL2 but don`t map for source.
reasons:
1)HL textures don`t fit my lab stye mapping(mayby when this black mesa source is done i`ll see if i can use theres)
2)2 many things i don`t understand- e.g logic_ ?
3)i don`t understand 90% of the animations.
4)info_nodes are to complex and hammer help doen`t give a list of what each setting does.
5)Aliens no longer pop up from nowhere
6)dosn`t have many of my faveriot aliens- bull ckicken , that thing in oposing force that you get that blue electric gun thing. The one that shoots those flys at you. and so on.
7)too many textures. When you can`t find a fitting keyword for what you want (eg ,metal or wood) it takes forever to get from top to bottom of the list by which time i find i forget what I was looking for.(mayby theres a better way of doing it)
8)Hammer lists modle and prop textures!I DON`T WANT THEM!!!
Sorry since this is off-topic but i couldnt think if a better way of telling you.

1) HL2 is indeed much more 'urban' and lab textures are difficult to find but there are a few gems. Also, there are at least 6 lab style texture packs avaiable for download that i have seen.

2) So learn! The entity system is a hell of a lot easier than HL1's set-up and is fantastic when you master it.

3) I really don't understand what u mean by that...

4) Info_nodes too complex?!?! you just place them.. you dont need to edit their properties or anything. There is also an individual help file for EVERY entity

5) Why not? a teleport sequence would be pretty easy to set-up

6) True, there is a limited selection of NPCs but hey, antlions are bullchicken equivelants.

7) How can you have too many textures?!?! same as HL1 texture browsing. 'Wall' 'floor' 'ceiling' 'wood' 'metal' 'nature' 'water' 'decal'

8) at the bottom right of the texture selection screen there are little ticked boxes. One of them says models and props. un-check it

Source mapping is a lot easier in many ways than HL mapping and mapping for source doesnt mean you stop mapping for HL.. i still map for both

Chapter 4

How could he have been so stupid? Y'ato was cursing himself as he ran out of the pavillion. Telling Wosaki EVERYTHING had to be a bad idea. He could picture the scene now. Him, strapped to a hospital bed, having tests run on him and his mind. They would think he was a nutjob. At least he still hadn't told them about the time travel.
He finally calmed down and looked around him. The 'garden' had a large pond in the middle, many people were still milling about, engaged in deep conversation. Y'ato noted that over half of them carried weapons. The other half, he knew were true morphers. It suddenly struck him that from the time frame y'ato had come from, all of these morphers were dead. A sharp pain in his chest made him clench his eyes and double over. When he opened his eyes again, the world seemed to glow. He felt stronger. Angrier. The knowledge that all these people were going to die was too much for him. It had re-activated the power that welled in him and without thinking, he morphed into a massive dragon, bigger than anything he had morphed into before, with a hide as tough as a rock.
Everyone was staring at him and through his monochrome dragon's eyes he saw fear, amazment and utter un-belief.
He was a danger to everyone here. If he couldn't control when he morphed, how was he supposed to control his actions? With a dragon tear the size of a human head, he took flight and headed over the forest that had seemed so large from his window and that now resembled grass.

After many hours of flying, he saw farmhouses and quickly morhped into a seagull, knowing that the dragon that he had previosly been had only ever been achieved by Seltor himself. They believed nobody was that powerful. They were wrong.

Y'ato collapsed. His head was swimming and his legs felt like they were going to fall off. His clothes were tattered and his stomach empty.
In the four days he had been wandering the wilderness to which he had ventured after running from wosaki, afraid that he might end up harming his friend, much had happened. A new political party had started running for rulership over the land. The Conformity Party... Seltor's party.
Being alone for so long had made the voices in Y'ato's head louder. He frequently found himself having conversations with this voice. He didn't want to believe it but with every passing moment, the doubt seemed to lessen slightly.
It was the morning of the fourth day. The last meal Y'ato had had had been at sunrise the previous day, and that had only been a bit of under-cooked game.
Y'ato's vision was blurred. He desperately wanted to sleep but the voice inside had kept him awake for the past four days. Time had no meaning any more. It may have been months for all he knew. A shadow cast over Y'ato causing him to look up.
"You there! What is your name, boy?" a voice - not the one in Y'ato's head - asked.
"I... I'm Y'ato.." He exclaimed.
"Y'ato. You look weak. Need you shelter and food? I can-"
Y'ato's head hit the dusty ground hard as he fell assleep, instantly without the voice.

"You gave us quite a scare, Y'ato. What the hell were you playing at?" Asked Wosaki, not unkindly.
"Wosaki... Let me die."Y'ato replied forcefully.
"What?! Y'ato, what happened?" Wosaki signalled the guard at the door to be careful.
"You're in danger, Wosaki!"
"From what?"
"From me"

Opposing Force's tunnels are shit scary. Every corner has 2 more turns. 2 contain monsters in the pitch black. 1 contains the next crossroads. completely un-lit...

I dont like worms 3D because, although it is an alright game. its not worms.. its insulting to my favourite 2D characters. Its no longer hillarious its just.. 'you shit you threw a fridge at me' play HL2DM if you want that.

And worms forts is so appaulingly bad that i took it back to the shop 3 days after buying it. It's bug filled, its not neccisary, its a waste of money and more importantly, PCG gave it 14% yes.. 14/100

you use models for doors in source. dont ask how though, i just use the ol' func_door with a metal texture :)

at a guess, place the door model, attach it to some phys_hinges and put them in the door frame.. at a guess

This is not in order of favourites, i just cant decide which i like better over these.

1. Battlefield 2
2. Half-Life
3. Freelancer
4. IL2 Sturmovik : Forgotten Battles
5. Medieval Total War w/ expansion pack
All great, great games. Battlefield 2 for the shear incredible gameplay.
Half-Life because iv completed it over 15 times and still am not bored of it. Freelancer because it had literally an entire galaxy in MULTIPAYER with no lag whatsover and up to 102 players online at a time with saved multiplayer galaxies. And IL2FB because its so customisable, has great online & sp gameplay and is scarily realistic.
MTW because its got 10,000 indivdually animated charatcers on screen at once with no lag.

Worst Game(s)
Again, not in any particular order.

1. Crazy Taxi
Yeah, it's great, unbelievable fun... for 5 mins.
2. Lemony Snickets - A series of unfortunate events.
JUST BECAUSE THEY RELEASE A BLOCKBUSTER DOES NOT MEAN THEY HAVE TO SPEND 5 MINUTES ON THE GAME!
3. Worms 3D
Worms does NOT work in 3D. Levae it, team17. 2D rocks.
4. Delta Force #X
#X being version 'X' There are so many delta force games that i wanna kill someone. they are into double figures.
5. Metal Gear Solid 2
The original was un-believable. gripping story, immense gameplay and great voice acting... and although MGS2 isnt bad.. its just no match for the original.

:nuts: the last time i completed HL (2 months ago - Hard Mode - 12th run on ard mode) i was searching for good mapping techniques and it's incredible how bad some of the texturing is. take the llambda complex in 'Questionable Ethics' The wall textures are appauling when near doors.
