But these results aren't necessarily accurate
They are not accurate, but they make the difference. Do you expect everybody to install 3Dmark vantage? Or synthetic testers?
The test does work and does make the difference between old and new CPUs.
In this age, single-core CPUs are mostly artifacts from the stone age among anyone who even knows what a CPU does.
Not quite, and you're wrong about the last one. But I'm sure it depends to the environment you're exposed.

You're not a computer scientist. And it shows the speed of a core Luke, which is important. You can't get a more pure benchmark than calculating pi.

Luke, your PC is awful. My PC is even more.

Ok guys, I'm not doing this for the love of starting a new discussion. I'm interested to see how different processors behave in such a test(and to compare it to mine, I have a Netburst technology dual core I'd like to change).
The benchmark consists of calculating the value of pi with 1 million digits.
You can download the software here: Download Link

Instructions:
1.Download, Extract and Run the program.
2.Click "Calculate", and select from the dropdown list "1M".
3.Look at your result and post it here, together with the type of processor you have and specifications of it
( you may round the result, because almost certainly +-(2-3 seconds) will be influenced by other system processes.

Keep in mind that more cores will not really influence the calculation of pi in this program. For that, there is another, Wprime, but it's a bit more complex and we want simple results here.

I will start.
Processor: an Intel Pentium D P935, running at 3,2 Ghz
PI calculation time: ~42 seconds

Just remember to calculate 1M !

Inception.

Only one question: was the spinner at the end going to stop or not? Because it looks like it would stop, but the scene ends suddenly.

Awesome film. Provokes me to start an ample brain research and hacking on myself.

Congratulations. You just had a normal dream. Let me talk about my dreams too, so I won't start a new thread.

In the last 2 weeks my emotional condition has been getting worse, since all I hear is about the end of the world, I read too much about nuclear experiments,
and I'm quite stressed in this period.
To add more, I got 3 dreams that were, from my opinion, actually in sequence(I want to mean that they're related).

This summer I had a dream about an atomic bomb exploding at about 100 km from my location, and I felt the intense heat from it without dieing.

These weeks I experienced another 2.
The first was the dream that induced me the feeling that the end is near.
I was in the classroom with me colleagues, when suddenly a bright flash appeared and I knew it was a nuclear bomb. I knew I had no chance of escaping so I just sat on my knees, saying my last prays. I was extremely scared, and felt very bad for all my bad actions and that I wasn't a better person.
Then, the last one... I had it at the beginning of this week I think... I was at my grandmother gathering fruits, when I saw(in detail) a big bomber above me. I immediately knew it was carrying a nuclear bomb. I was hoping not to launch it in this village, but it did. It exploded, and I saw the tremendous force of heat and shockwave coming towards me. I felt fear again, and prepared to die. I then woke up.

And now all the news about 11.10.2010... I'm not saying I'm believing, because I don't. But it's that obsessive thought in my mind "but what if it's true?".

I don't understand what's happening anymore. Everything is working fine besides steam, and the ports are opened.

Now I forwarded all the required steam ports in my modem, and checking again 4380: it now works.
But steam still doesn't want to connect! Oh boy, so many computer-science related books where you read "a pc will do only what you tell him to do". Such a big lie...

I ask again, if I reinstall steam my game files will be deleted?

I already checked that page and it seems there's nothing I can really do, and nothing seems wrong with my pc either ( disabled firewall and antivirus to see if that was the problem).

Also, I tried to verify my ports on http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/, but no port appears to be working(that's what the site says, and by no port I mean not even "80" but that's not true, I'm on a webpage just now!).

What pisses me off is that 2 days ago it was working just fine, and yesterday it stopped. Without modifying anything in the system.

[EDIT] Ok, I entered this site: http://portforward.com/help/portcheck.htm, downloaded it and started checking ports(probably the yougetsignal doesn't work from other reasons). The steam client ones was an interest for me, and they all work expect the last one(listed on this page) : UDP 4380.
Ok, now I know it doesn't work, but what can I do?

Striker, we love your pictures, they are amazing, keep them coming, and why don't you archive the best ones on deviantART? you'll get a lot of fans grin - :D.
I don't really know... I don't want too much hustle with lots of sites and accounts... I'm actually thinking about starting a blog maybe.
Striker your pictures are great, coming from someone who isn't at all a photographer, and only knows about the rule of thirds. I love the cats blue eyes. I also love how you played with colours in this one
Heh, I'm indeed not a photographer, but photography and filming is a passion for me. And even though you say I only know the rule of thirds, actually I'm trying to learn other things as well(I subscribed to a photo magazine).
Thank you again.

[EDIT] Nikon D7000 is now available for buying. This camera is just wonderful(min 1/8000s exposure time for mid-class :O, and a lot of great features that I'm not gonna list, instead check this link.

Unfortunately I have a 100mb limit so I'll have to scale them down on the pc first(I'm not bothering doing that myself yet, flickr autoscales them and reduces the space it occupies, but it does calculate the upload not the actual space the transformed photo will take).

I know it will, but I'm actually willing to resolve this conflict rather than installing additional software :). Thanks for the tip though.

in Browsers won't load pages Post #286633
What I'm going to describe next already happened to me in the past, but after a pc restart it worked fine. Now it just won't work anymore!
I can't access web pages at all, and it all started not working just...suddenly, with no apparent reason\action.

After some time I figured it might be a conflict between Comodo Firewall and Avast antivirus. And after some trial and error I discovered what's the problem: the avast Web Shield.
I had no other option than to leave it disabled so I can browse(every other internet services are working fine).

The problem is that I can't find a good answer on the internet about how to resolve this, all I could do was to just "add as trusted application" every service related to avast, and it still doesn't work.
It's odd this happened all of a sudden... probably an update?

Can somebody help me please? Thank you.

Starcraft2 is pretty fun, but I'm still confused why they changed some default units in mp with the new ones, like Firebats. When I saw Marauders in SP I thought they're only an addition to the campaign, and then I saw some videos in mp/skirmish...

Some time ago I could say can't watch animation films because they're for kids, but I came to the conclusion it's not really like that. I enjoyed this one, it was really warming and films like this make you feel bad for not having the good qualities every person should have... makes me think about world harmony and peace- a beautiful feeling that is rapidly destroyed by the cold shower of reality. Well, I believe most animation films should be done this way, to amuse and to learn good traits, not violence. I also admire all the work that has been put into this: concepts, ideas, modeling, environments, characters, stereotypes, voice acting, everything... people who do this deserve their money.
Oh, and Night Fury is really cute ^^.

The original picture looked ugly so I decided to make it a bit more artistic. Even though it's grainy, I think it looks better than the original.
It's because it was made at full zoom, and atmospheric conditions weren't quite appropriate for shooting, plus it was almost evening with a cloudy sky.
