Whatever happened to the idea that we would build our own sections of the hub to a set size and assemble it at the end? My entrance will probably need to be specific to my map.

Dibs on the hydrogen tank, though i may change it a little bit to suit my theme and the hub.

I can't say i like where this central hub idea is going. It's supposed to be one room that connects the missions together, but people are trying to introduce too much story into it. It's a random collection of maps for people who want to play something a little different, not an epic quest to save the world from destruction etc. etc.

I have a small wad of custom HL-esque textures i've made over time, and i can easily edit the signs for whatever text people might need.. or edit some of the other HL textures that i haven't touched. My map probably won't be based in the HL world, so i may be using a more realistic texture set, but some of you may find my custom ones useful. :)

Here's some examples (a few of these were used in my abandoned 'Renegade' mini-mod):

Yeah, the story behind these videos is a load of crap. That doesn't mean the videos don't have an actual effect on you, it's a combination of illusions, psychological tricks, and a real, physical impact on you.

As i said before, it's something away from the norm that plays with your head, makes you feel things that are and aren't there. The combination of the aural and visual oddities could be triggering mild headaches or strain to some peoples eyes, etc. etc.

There is an explanation for all of it.

Heh, just watched the videos, pretty tame really. Though i can see why people would be terrified of these, they play with your head.

The combination of unusual sounds (the music isn't structured as someone would normally expect) and even more unusual faces (they aren't life-like, and they don't move as you'd expect) plays on peoples fear of the unknown, quite a good illusion.

Easy to see through though if you dumb it down to what it really is: strange faces and eerie music similiar to most typical horror styles. I will admit the faces in the 3rd and 4th videos got to me though, when the music suddenly popped on (again, a typical horror style).

I think we should leave it up to the player what order he must complete the missions in, rather then needing this to access that in this map etc.

So we could give it a simple story, like you must collect an object in each level in order to escape the main hub, and you collect each of these objects via portals to different areas in different timelines and locations. Hell, it could be collecting all the parts necessary to engineer a portal out of the hub... or something.

Heh, trust you to think of an alien theme, i think it'd rock if you went ahead with it. I'm looking forward to mapping a fun little set of maps, probably with a few TWHL-specific jokes and whatnot... maybe even some 'guest appearances'.

EDIT:
Why don't we use a Hub setting? A central map that connects all the levels using fancy gates/portals/whatever. Kinda like what Reissues uses.
Nice idea indeed, i think it'd be great if we each mapped our own little hub section (of course they'd have a pre-determined size and shape so putting it together is easy). Mmm.
