They better add more flexibility with displacements. Because right now you have to be a fucking art major in order to do anything with them correctly.

It's a pre-compile tool. you run the RMF through HLFIX and then compile it. Read the site.
Usage

hlfix <mapname>[.rmf] [options]

Options:
-o <outfile> Output file (default is <mapname>.map or <mapname>.rmf)
-w <wadfile> WAD list file (default is wad.txt)
-r Output to RMF file instead of MAP file
-nt Don't tesselate non-planar faces
-nd Don't decompose non-convex solids
-nu Don't unite coplanar faces
-na Don't perform ANY geometry correction
-v Process and output visible objects only
-e <number> Epsilon factor for numeric comparisons (default is 1.0)
you can create a batch file in your maps folder something along the lines of

hlfix messedupcube.rmf -r

Save that as like.. cube.bat (save as type from notepad)
and it'll show up like a file with a gear on it. Double click it and it'll run hlfix with your map, and the "-r" outputs it as a .rmf not a map.
User posted image
BUT if you forget the "-r" extension, it'll output it as a .map, then you can use the wonders of the COMPILATOR to compile your map more effiiently than you can dream.

It's a tool that makes sure all your on-grid vertices stay that way when you compile. Else... ^^^^ that happens.
Check the links page? Idk where to locate it right now tho. Maybe a forum or tutorial search would help.

EDIT

HLFIX!!!

in Google to introduce new OS Post #269691
Anyway, cool. I assume they'll make it so every software that's designed for Windows will work under chrome OS.
If you read it you would know that's true :)

I'll definitly do a HD partition with Chrome OS!
I actually can't wait to try it out:)
Hopefully they have 64bit support for it so i can actually USE my 4 gigs of ram.
I love google. I met the 2 founders at a FIRST Robotics Championship =]

I've been getting an object / class error when i load it up. It occurred directly after i selected my steam directory.
I'll get more info on that when i'm home. Along with a screenshot of the error because it happens every time i load the program. Granted it works, but it might be something you'd want to look at anyway.

Lmao 11 hours? Jesus.
Well throw in a skybox, and some cubemaps (make one for the skybox as well) and just compile it overnight, silly =p
my mistake on the 10 min compile thing, I'm tired and at work.

NOO! It's unfinished without a skybox mang. It takes like 20 minutes and a 10 minute compile is NOTHING! At least try. :P
The map will look incredibly polished if you add the skybox.

BTW i'm jealous. I can't even get a source map working properly, let alone finish one. Grats.

Have you experimented with the 3-d skybox being completely water?
It's tough to pull off but with proper fog, you can have a seamless transition that looks like it goes on forever.

You do have a point tho. The engine IS dated.

But i'm still getting over the fact that i spent the last 5 days trying to get this ONE thing in my source compo and it didnt work, so i got pisssed off and just started doing it in goldsource. I'm making a lot of progress and i'm getting over the fact i wasted the first 60% of the time. But at least i can make some steady progress now. so ALL IS WELL! :)

no. I'm getting the error 34 times - exactly the same number of env_glows i have in my map..

The error doesnt DO anything, but it's really annoying in dev mode to have my triggers be replaced with "Non-Sprite set to glow!" within 2 seconds of being displayed. (Dev mode, up top left corner)

If that doesnt work, i hide everything except for the void-sealing brushes, and i fly around in hammer until i find something.

Yeah i basically lost all hope for my source map. I'm getting a leaf portal saw error that I cant fix. The compile toos tell me to run... some compile command but i really have no clue.

If you're good with source troubleshooting, could you take a look at my error thread in the source section? My map compiles but the error makes all the lighting look like utter shit, and the water doesn't show up and i'm losing all motivation because it's just crap. Crap crap crap crap.

If i can't get this to work, I might just hack something together in goldsource :(

It's probably not going to look good either....
