For an explosion, you will need to use a multi_manager to trigger all the stuff to blow up. First, the objects that u want to blow up need to be func_breakable. Make sure u name them, numbered as well. Then u need to spread around some env_explosion in the places u want them to blow. Name them too. Now put in a multi_manager and name it something like 'explomm'. Click on Smartedit. Now u need to add all the explosions and breakable stuff. Do this by hitting 'Add', type in the name of the particular entity. The value determines how many seconds that entity will 'go off' when the manger is triggered. For example, if theres a computer (comp1) and u want it to blow up (explo1), then the explosion would be placed close to the computer. Then in the mulit_manager, put in comp1 and explo1 and give them the same values (for example 1). Then, when u set of the manager, these 2 will go off at the same time! Thats the VERY basic idea anyway, if you're still confused (which may be likely :zonked: ) then post back and I may make u an example map... :)

I might take a wild guess here...
It may have been a lot easier for them to add support for Barney etc then to add support for the more complicated monsters (eg, "Big Momma"). Perhaps in Half-Life 2...

Yes BUT they have made changes, the polygon level of the models has GREATLY increased. It looks very nice from what I've seen from the screenshots. But enough with the ad...

in Map Voting Post #17297
For a start, that is EXTREMLY good advice from Jobabob. Your first map will pretty much be crap. Secondly EXTREMLY gr8 words from Andy. Now I'm not the greatest mapper in the world thats for sure. But so long as I think pratically then thats ok. I think the best thing to do is NOT to make a big Hooha about ur map and let people find it themselves. When you start saying things like "Best map ever!" or "This is a great map!" then other peoples expectations will rise and they will most definately expect more out of your map, something it perhaps cannot deliver.

My first released map (not my first ever map) received an average of 3 stars, which is pretty pathetic. Back to the drawing board. Keep designing, keep trying other maps, get ideas, map it out and get a close friend to take a look! As Andy said above!

The best practice would be to expect a neutral review. Don't expect poeple to acclaim your map and don't expect people tp critisice your map. Then you can truly come back and say "How can I improve?" and then do it!

I finish by saying everyone gets better over time, just depends on how much time it takes. Just make sure you take the time! :)

For a newbie ur pretty ok. I unfortunately didn't get it to run because I didn't wait long enough. I will look at it 2morrow theres a few things wrong with it. For example the skybox and the dodgy texturing (you've got texture lights in places where walls connect...not good). Still for a newb pretty good!

Anywho nice looking map! BUT! Use texture lighting it looks so much better than the Light entities. 2, take a look at the visgroups tut on this site, it would benifit you very much. Its quite a large map too, so it takes a while to compile.

6. Hit Add (next to Game Data files)
