I've tried various lambdas, with little success. Here's the latest trying to mash up goldsource and HL2 logos:

I had the idea a couple of days ago to make a realistic mod for goldsource, but never put any thought into it, so I never posted anything. (isn't it weird how we sometimes we as humans come up with the same ideas simultaneously and independently!)

I have to agree with everyone else though, there's no sense in posting simply the idea... Imho:

1. Think the idea through
2. Decide what will work and what won't
3. Build some REAL content
4. Rebuild/revise it 'till you have something worth looking at
5. Post that!

make two seperate boxes then weld them by sticking two sides of each box together.
The only way I can do it is to delete the box polygons facing each other.

Is that the solution? :\

These pretty much suck because I'm just getting started and don't really know what I'm doin... (notice the transparency flaws)

Anyway imo, a favicon that incorporated Elements of Half-life and Hammer would be ideal and if it could represent HL1 and HL2 as well, then even better. This is a tall order considering the space, but I'm curious to see what people come up with!

Yeah, I thought they had to be "together" else you'd get smoothing errors, but as long as you say it's okey, that's all I need to know! (Yeah, the other side is the same thing: they share the same vertex, but I can't weld them)

That's exactly why.

The comments pertain to that map, so if someone is talking about the cool func_train in your map in comments, someone searching "func_train" would get that map in the search results.

Penquinboy:

kk. With the search function again maybe you could add if you search for something in quotes, it also gives you the results without spaces, like:

dm_starwars

So if you searhed "star wars", that map would show too.

It's not a huge deal, I just remebered getting moar results on the old TWHL. Will comment terms be included eventually too?

2 The search function for Map Vault is acting weird: If I type "star wars" Jobabob's map doesn't come up, plus results not containing those terms do.

3 Search bar resets to tutorials. Liek, if you do a search in the map vault, and then click on a map link, the search topic changes back to tutorials. Not a big deal and I can't even remember how it worked on the old site. (i thought if you set it to "forums" it would stay on fourms until you logged out, maybe?)

I do not Skeetz, you changed it to indexed color right? If not that, what's the size of you .bmp? Maybe it has to be at or under 512 x 512??

Tetsu0: Yeah mine settings are exactly the same, but I'm using 3 viewport images instead of 1 (I'm guessing ur using 1), so maybe that's part of my problem.

I ended up getting it to work though. the top and front images lined up right, but the "left" image was showing at the wrong size. After playing with it, I found you could toggle off the lock/zoom and use the smooth zoom feature (lower right magnifying glass) and actually scale the background image somehow (using a box as reference for height/length), if that makes any sense.

Anyway, here's my beautiful boxy t-84 WIP... I'm going to start the turret tomorrow:

HLMapper: It's not free, but there are other ways to get it, but things liek that should be discussed points elsewhere... <cough cou-Bit-uu-Torr-uu-ent-h cough>

Tetsu0: looks sweet, is that with mesh smooth?

Rimrook: I'm having problems with getting the viewport backgrounds images to work correctly. They bork and rescale, and even though I made there proportions in photoshop perfect I can't get them to show up even in the correct proportions in max, not to mention the random distortions and having to hit ctrl-alt-shift-B (longest SHORTCUT evar) to update them.

Is there an easier way?

Also having a problem with getting the snap settings to my lieking (moar like Hammer grid snap). (like if you turn off snap and move something, and then turn it back on and try to snap to a grid point, it won't seem to do it)

I've been going through the max 7 bible and trying stuff, but this interface is so overly complicated and counter-intuitive (at least compared to my familiarity to hammer) that I'm not even sure what I'm doin half the time lawl! :P

Here's my current snap-related settings:

-Use Axis Constraints [on}
-Reference Coordinate system [constant]
-snaps set to: gridlines and vertex
-what is grid nudge distance (can you "nudge" objects like in hammer?)
-grid nudge distance set to 0

Sorry for the long-winded post, The truck comes for me soon. = )

edit: I got the snapping problem sorted, but don't ask me what I did, cuz I don't know! : ) I am curious how you run your snaps tho Rim.

Srry: personal preference. Maps you think are great may genuinely not impress someone else.

SPs in general for example are boring/repetative to me, no matter how carefully made (not to take away the enormous amount of work and dedication goes into making even a mediocre sp).

Everyone raves about Minimicus and while i appreciate and am awed by the technical challenges, I didn't like it and wouldn't play it again.

Daubster: I'll put alpestrine ahead of de_mon if it breaks the tie. I played them both again, and while de_mon is an amazing achievement of performance and unprecedented size (as well some neat doodads) I have to prefer the eleganct, escheresque beauty of alpestrine.

Another thing that really impresses me about that map is though the playable area is rather small, the immensely creative layout makes it "feel" much bigger; You can and do get confused as to where you are and where you're going! (which is perfect for a smaller map, not too much worry about landmarking)

Mon and Alpestrine are opposites of sorts, and both awsome, but I prefer Dm_Alpestrine.

Tetsu0: if you mean like add verticies (in hammer ctrl + f) try this:

**Slice the plane like Rim showed us (I tried just selecting 2 edges and JUST slicing those, but it slices through everything still).

**Now the face/polygon is split, but you have 2 sets of verticies.

**Select all the verticies you just sliced/made and weld

Now the "face" is split in too. If you actually want to manipulate "faces" you can, but not in editable poly. In editable poly there is no face option fsr...

Rim: What's the difference between editable mesh/ploly? When I modelled in gmax eons ago, I always used mesh, but your editable poly ways seem much easier. = )

Tutorial is great for me till I get to the part where you assign the bone. Fsr, I can't get it to "attach" to my crate.

The only thing I can thing to add to the tutorial would be to copy/cut/enlarge some of the icons you'll be using in each section, and place them at the start of each step where they'll be used.

I'm using max 7, here's the file if you want to look:

Crate SDK (lolz)

I found this on Valve Development Community for hl2 static models, it includes a few extra steps, but I didn't try it yet:
5) Make 1 bone by clicking on the very center (0,0,0) and then right clicking. It'll create 2 joints (1 bone). (Check screen shot)

6) Apply a physique modifier to your model and attach your simple rig as the node.

7) Click the plus next to Physique in the modifier list and select vertex.

8) Select all of the verts and click assign to link. Then click the green plus symbol, set "Blending between links" to "No Blending", and click on your bottom bone at 0,0,0. All the verts should turn green.
edit: NEVERMIND! I was trying to move the box, not move the bottom of the bone as instructed! : ) (finishing now)
