I just realized that I don't have a DVD player on my new computer. Can anyone recommend any quality freeware DVD player for me? I don't want to use the one that comes with the hardware, because it's usually old and crappy.

Thanks in advance. :D

People will say Windows Media Players sucks but it is my favourite.

Realplayer, DIVx is a nice one.

Realplayer is poor. It's bloatware, and possibly spyware too. Windows Media Player is poor in my opinion, but for playing films, it doesn't really matter ? hardly as if it really matters much, you'll barely ever be seeing it. I'd say you might as well use it, much as it goes against the grain to recommend a Microsoft product :).

You should just look for Power DVD, its pretty kick ass, what type of DVD rom did you get?

I got PowerDVD which came with teh comp, but never watch dvds. The only movies I watch are porn clips or films i've downloaded.

Windows Media Player won't play DVD's if it doesn't have a codec. I'd suggest just cracking a trial copy of PowerDVD, which is a very nice DVD program. RealPlayer should burn in hell.

Athony, you're right again.

When I load up a DVD, WMP complained "no codec available on this computer" and refused to play the DVD.

Anyways, I'll keep looking. I don't really watch DVD on my computer on a regular basis anyways. I just thought that I should test out all the function of my new computer.

At least it plays music CD's.

Erm, Unbreakable, he has the hardware already, needs the software too?

Codecs are software.
