OMFG i can't do the simplest thing in windows. You know how after the filename it shows the filetype extension? I don't have that anymore since I installed windows. So I can't change files or create files that aren't on that little "new" list. I can't even tell what a file is by looking at it I have to guess by its icon.

How do I get it so that I can see the filetype extension and when I rename it, so it actually re-creates the file to what I rename it to?
I have windows XP pro

I dunno bout XP, I have 2k, but try goin to: MY Computer/Control Pannel/Folder Options > file types. You should get a list of files, which are in the system... Maybe theres somethin wrong with them? Try checking the all functions - maybe you'll get good results...

already tried that. it shows all the fle types and stuff, I just can't see them on the desktop etc. it will say
hammer
as opposed to
hammer.exe
or
new text document
instead of
new text document.txt

just right click and click properties.. It will show the file type.

My computer>tools>Folder options>View: uncheck the oone that sais - hide extensions for known file types
