If I want to submit a tutorial for TWHL how do I send it and what are the requirements, etc.

Great, we always like new input.
You can submit the tutorial directly to me, my e-mail address is in the members section.
What I prefer to work with is a .txt file from NotePad or similar, But if you can't do that, a Word document is fine. Get the text down and indicate where you would like any screen shots by just putting a line in the text [Image door.jpg here] or something. As for the images, I am not on broardband or cable :-( so I would appreciate them in JPG or GIF format and about 600x480 but if you can't crop them or resize them, then just send them full size and zipped with the text.

What will happen next?
I will format your words, insert the pictures and upload it all to a test page. Once our massive staff of highly trained editors (Atom, SlayerA and I ) go over your work with a fine tooth comb, checking validity at each step, and approving content, then I will send you a copy of what it will look like before it goes live, and give you the oppurtunity to make last minute changes. After that it will be posted and you will be famous in the mapping community.....
Well maybe not, but what a rush....Your Tutorial.
It really is that simple.

Sounds good, maybe I'll make one - if I can think of any that haven't already been done which I can do :)

I am looking for really simple stuff, like, how to control a light with a switch... How to build a rotating wheel ( that doesn't fly off into space when triggered :-)

I have forgotten more than I have learnt, so just go through the available tutorials and see if there is anything that you know how to do, but isn't covered.. or not covered well enough :-).. and write it up in a text file.. This will earn you respect from your fellow mappers.. and give me a hand getting stuff done.

Let me know when it's done.

I can write a tutorial about getting custom textures from original HL/CD wads files into the new Hammer and HL2. I finally figured out how its done, so, i'de like to share it here.

But then again, won't that be an incredibly short tutorial? (DieH@rd) :

I'll be starting to make my mods (Equilibrium) Trailer.. And I thought it would be good to have a tutorial showing how its done, (making an AVI Trailer) alot of people would be interested in such a tutorial, and I thought I'd make a tutorial of how its done, with pictures and all. And I'd even include my finished Mod trailer, to show what it could turn out to be like with practice.. Well what do you guys think?

Just get some screen capture software and record it. Alternatively make a .dem and use some nice tool to make it a movie.

MuzzleFlash: You can just add .wad files in hammer 4, can't you?

Ya Zombie but theres more to it than just that, For example, sorting frames, adding sound, resolution, and learning to use certain programs..etc.. I know you may know but others may not know exactly how it can be done... ;)

So Andy, what do you think, I know you asked for non-complex tuts. but I can make "making a movie" non-complex!?

Are you talking about having a tutorial just telling people how to use a third-party piece of screen-cap software? Seems most pointless to me. They should just experiment with it or read the manual :|

im thinking of making one about the bullrthole effect, you know the one they used when the grunt riddled the vent with bullets.

Ya, but theres more to it then just that like:
Changing fps--people should no it should be a standard 20-30fps when recording.. or how to record and stop the demo file, resolutions should be kept small 400x300, and most people don't know about playing the timedemo, programs such as mkmovie.exe, will be needed, but will they know how to use it--simple click and drag the dem file.. Like sure Im sure they could use the tutorials forvideo mach, but it won't cover everything. It only covers things like the "Variable Bitrate Mode" and stuff, it doesn't have a tutorial, about half-life, and then theres the compression, and importing music files....anywhos that about sums it all up..

Seventh, are you not yet convinced? And Andy, Where are you, input would be great! :)

Are you saying there's a program that'll render and record .dem files specially?

Garg... I'm not personally sure that really needs a tutorial on it, it's not really that hard.

Before we get too carried away.
I can think of a million tutorials that could be written...
The point is should they?

Most of the great tutorials are one's that introduce something unique.
Do a really good websearch and check out all the sites.
Most of HL1 is covered...

As for HL2, I am not accepting HL2 tutorials just yet...

Well, mkmovie.exe will separate the bitmaps and Video Mach, helps put them in order and add music and stuff, its a really nifty program. Then you can change the bitrate mode and save it as an avi or other type files.. :)
