Right I hope someone can give me an idea here.

Quite often at work I am alone in my office with little to do (I'm IT Support so when everything works I don't have much to do)

I sit for hours each day at work, wishing I could be at home mapping instead.

I can't install HL2 at work, or HL1, or in fact any games at all. I could get away with putting hammer 3.5 on, but you need the games installed to use it.......

What I'm asking is - does anyone know of a way I could be working on my maps while "at work" -- but without having HL (or whatever) installed?

Please help me do less work.

There is software to connect to and use your home pc at work, but I dunno if they work.

Yeah we have some of that software at work, but it really isn't a good option for me. The reasons are too long to go into here.

What I'm after is some nifty program which lets me make stuff which I can email to myself at home and later copy into my maps.

I hope something like that exists!

all you need is hammer, a fgd and a wad, you can compile your maps when your home.

Yeah, if you can somehow get away with stuffing the WAD files on there, and the FGDs, you're good to go ;D

FGDs are plaintext so you can copy-paste into an email and just remake a new .fgd file at werk or whatnot.

As your boss came along you clicked it with your feet and it changed your game back to work

Ooh I'll grab some FGD's and WADS then and give it a go.

I've got Hammer 3.4 working on my work PC!

Now I can sit and make arches and detail bits at work.

Yay!

Mind you - I take Hammer 4 forgranted! There are loads of little annoying things in 3.4 that they fixed in 4. Double clicking on entities in 3d view doesn't bring up their properties, bah.

Worth noting that if you have the compile tools, you can compile and then see what it looks like in BSP Viewer if you wish. It could be helpful.

or, get a batch compiler and compile your maps at work off your comanys server. im sure you could get some random unused computer to do it for you

Nahh bsp viewer is'nt good in his case for he'll need steam!

Why would he need Steam? HL1 compilers create a BSP, and BSPviewer works fine.....
