I re-formated my computer not long ago...! (If letters are missing in words it's probebly 'cause I smahed my keyboard). When I installed SP 2 everything f***ed up. Its REALLY laggy when I move windows, I cant play css or diablo II! :nervous: A friend of mine's dad is helping me alittle. But does any1 know how to fix this? When I try to run css it says Unable to init shader system. Diablo says "Error 22: A critical error has accurred while initializing DirectDraw. And I got DirectX 9.0 if that's the problem.

Plz help :(

Have you reinstalled the latest drivers for the graphics card? It must not be a problem with SP2 since I have it and it CS:S works fine. On the other hand, games like Star Wars Ep1 RACER fail with XP SP2...

(Re)install your motherboard AGP drivers and graphics drivers?

this is a common story. I've heard it a million times. SP2 really makes the computer unstable, even though it's suppose to make the computer more secure.

I would avoid it like the plague. And if you already installed it, I would try to remove it however you can.

I disagree with my learn?d friend. If your PC works fine before, it'll work fine after. The question is "is it all fine at the moment?"

Works fine with me.

I think I am just too scared to try out SP2. Too many of my friends rendered their machines unusable after they updated their computer.

I say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Windows XP SP 2 messes up my comp, too. I tried installing it like 2 times and both times result in a infinite rebooting sequence. (load up, attempt to boot into Windows, failure, crash, restart, repeat)

SP2 seems to be running fine on my computer, even if its a bit intrusive.

Service Pack 2 is a joke. You should be using Windows 2000 actually, it's alot more stable and suprisingly slightly more secure, considering it is NT 5.0 (XP is NT 5.1). No compatability issues with and Windows XP applications. If you can't live without the tellytubbyland theme and the my first computer icons though, you should avoid it

... or if you want to play games. If you didn't, you could use LINUX :|.

Win2k is faster in games than WinXP. It's a proven fact. Windows XP is a subset of Win2k rather than a superset as Microsoft call it.

I've had a lot more compatability issues with Win2k then I've had with Xp when it comes to games
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-03 07:01:53 UTC Post #132007
I've played every new game out there on Win2k and it works fine. Including: Doom3, HL2, F.E.A.R (demo), Riddick, and a few others. No problems at all. Windows XP just sucks so hard :aggrieved:

So? There are old games too

Give me an example of compatability problems then. If it is a DOS game, neither XP or 2K support 16-bit (most old DOS games) DOS apps.

Hmm, I just (Yes, 1-2hours ago) installed sp2 and actually everything works better now. Didn't believe that this would happen.. I was prepared that I've gotta format and install everything again.

Well, SP2 has had "mixed" results.

Works fine with me.
Tbh if you want to play old games just install patches and thats settled!

Speed pff, does it really matter, I can wait a long time and still have fun after.

Not everygame has the needed patch. The Star Wars RACER patch doesnt solve the problem of the "white screen". I havent had any compatibility problems with XP other than "Max Payne 1", "RACER" and "Rogue Squadron".
I've never used win 2k in my PC, but I doubt any change will be worth the time it takes to reinstall everything.

That's right. But SP2 has that firewall thingy. And microsoft is capable of not letting us upgrade media player etc. if we dont download their stuff :tired:

did you get Max payne working? You just need to update it.
Can you fix Racer - I have the same problem :(
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-05 10:44:41 UTC Post #132490
my SW Racer works in a Intel Centrino Laptop running Windows XP SP2. I assume the problem has something to do with the newer Nvidia chips and drivers. Does anyone know if this game works with an ATi ?

not letting us upgrade media player
Oh... no. Calamity.

I was glad to fail the Genuine Windows thing. Now I only get the patches that matter. Ironic how that sounds like an M$ ad., eh?
