can some1 tell me why this is going from 0-25% constantly. this is while my computer is idle, and its crashing it every 30mins or so. i've scanned for viruses, spyware, adware, etc, and in safe mode, but i can't lower it.

cheers

25% CPU usage is not crashing your PC. Something related may be. I'm assuming that that's 2000/XP Pro, so do this:

1. Start -> Run -> cmd
2. tasklist /v > c:proc.txt
3. Host c:proc.txt somewhere and link to it. I can host it if you don't have anywhere ? e-mail me it.

look in processes?
(Ctrl+Alt+Del)
look for anything odd looking CPU eating processes.
track it down and fixfixfix :P

If you do the Ctrl-alt-del method, make sure you switch to the processes tab, then watch it for anything thats eating up resources and/or having erratic processor usage

Thats nice to know but it doesn't help our friend alex.
I can't notice anything wrong with that process list.
It is awfully long though!
Try just closing anything thats not essential to your PC running, one by one to single of what is causing the problem.

I suggest not using XP, but thats my opinion and you may not have a choice!

I don't like the look of "eooosfw.exe". I wouldn't be suprised if, the next time you start up, that's gone, and something with a different name is in its place. Probably a worm. istsvc.exe is spyware. I can't see anything else. I suggest you replace Task Manager with the superb Process Explorer for more information on what's running.

Do you use IE?

Have you run Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D?

1. Reinstall Winblows.
2. Install a GOOD antivirus and firewall. Not Norton.
3. Download all updates.
4. Install Firefox.
5. Download Adaware and SpybotSD.
6. Don't visit dodgy sites, or use IE. And use automatic update.
m0p m0pIllogical.

why not IE?
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-09 14:17:16 UTC Post #140539
IE sucks and lets in tons of viruses and spyware.

Stop using IE. Use Opera or Firefox, both free.

Process Explorer also allows you to suspend applications, so their on-exit routines don't get run, but nasty things can't restore themselves.

IE sucks in tons of viruses and spyware! Yes, use firefox or opera, remove spyware, and if that doesn't work, reinstall windows. As a last resort, of course.
