I saw a little of this video on G4TV, and I was very intrigued. I googled it, and I found a result instantly. This guy is sick.. make sure you read his comments on his run

Have you ever beat half-life in 45 minutes?
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-17 16:09:54 UTC Post #142056
45 minutes? Geez I can barely beat it ni 4 hours.
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-17 16:27:32 UTC Post #142058
45 minutes eh? let me see how fast I can do it
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-17 16:30:23 UTC Post #142061
well, you have to know all of the exploits, and the holes in the half life engine. this guy drops from like 150 feet and takes 0 damge cuz of the way he lands... lots of tau jumping too.

I can just manage an hour and ten minutes!

Bunny hopping is key to his time. Most of the enemies never had time to react to the player.

Plus, he skipped entire levels by scaling walls using trip mines and snarks. That's really clever.

And some dude from HL2DQ did my Justice map in 40 seconds.

These people are amazing.

40 seconds?!?! i got lost for about 10 hours and never completed it :quizzical:

and my record for HL1 is 3h:12m

record for HL2 is 14h:33m but i have only played that through 3 times.

I did HL2 15 hours spot on my 1st time through.
Haven't done another 'whole' run since that. (Just play chapters randomly now)
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-17 18:21:04 UTC Post #142079
omgomgomg!!!
i just watched that video the whole way through without ANY fast-forwards. it is unbelievable.. he completely skips 4 chapters. exposes EVERY game bug and yes seventh, climbs 3 walls using nothing but snarks. i am in complete awe.. the only one i could manage would be skipping 'Power Up'

:D

absolutely un-believable and yet heres the proof.

 the last time i completed HL (2 months ago - Hard Mode - 12th run on ard mode) i was searching for good mapping techniques and it's incredible how bad some of the texturing is. take the llambda complex in 'Questionable Ethics' The wall textures are appauling when near doors.

dam, my computer wont play the video :zonked:

I agree alot of the texturing is very bad in hl in some places

i think i saw this video... if it is the one i saw (it must be), look at it carefully, sometimes it doesnt display the episode titles and it is a video... it wasn made with one try, the guy had to record the parts seperated, and in dark places he stops recording, save game, continue recording than put it all together and it looks like it was done by the first try...
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-18 08:14:34 UTC Post #142122
he says that he did it in more than one try, if you read the thing after the video link he talks about how some sections took 8 hours. the reason there arent titles on some of the levels is because he exploited some stuff (i.e. pressing buttons through walls.) also, if you notice he had to get back health/energy to match the next segment's health/energy contents. @asinth you need a divX player to watch this, or a DivX codec for Windows Media Player. you can download divX from Here.
As for the texturing... yeah, horrid in some places, overlapping, misaligned. but hey, this game was ahead of it's time. its almost 7 years old... btw there is a half life 2 speed run in 2 hours 14 minutes. seen here that lows away your 14 hours.. =P

Some of the half-life architecture and texturing is atrocious,
I mean take the train ride at the beginning, there is one bit where I was cringing. :

I've got a hl2 speedrun video somewhere... An hour or so, it was. Quite boring though. I think it's on my server.
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-18 17:09:02 UTC Post #142233
a HOUR??!
Jeez, it took me a day of playing Halflife 2. not all at once, but overall, without cheats

Well you have to remember that when they made the game not only did they have to optimize it for the lowest of computers but the engine was also not as advanced as it has become today. However some of the errors in HL are just bad mapping.
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-19 00:10:08 UTC Post #142259
It's interesting that I never noticed these errors in overlapping brushes until I started mapping. All the FPS games looked good before. But now all I notice are the errors and architectural incongruities.

Yeah. It kinda sucks when you become a mapper because you know how everything works now and nothing is impressive anymore :(

this happens with all of them... freezes around 10mb... Can anyone put it on their server? :>
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-19 08:50:34 UTC Post #142306
are you opening it, or saving it? if so, i had the same problem. it wouldnt work if i tried to just open it, i saved it to my hd (~300mb!) you will need the divX player to view it (in case you get in trouble later on.) hope that helps
