i recently got my hands on two new large tvs ( one upstairs one down ) and Was planning with a friend to link up some xboxs and ply away.

only problem is the xbox system link cable is nowhere nere long enough to go from down stairs to my room.

i know this site can find the solusion to most problems so any help, or suggestions of were i can get a long cable would be apprieciated.

(excuse my poor spelling)

I wouldn't bet on being able to connect them over any distance you feel like. I don't know if the link is serial, which is far better over long distances, or parallel, which is very poor (hence PC hard drives generally have to be very close to the motherboard, etc.). Googled?

i googled it but best i found was the 20 ft offical one, and that doesnt even reach the stairs,

see i know its possible to use non offical cables cause another friend of mine has one that works ( his brother got it from some collage )

and that cable goes up two floors.

the only thing i know is that normal ether net cables dont work, somthing to do with the cable working two way, im not sure, wont pretend im clued up.

Normal cables do work but their are two kinds, double threaded, and single threaded. Like the ones that come with the Xbox, you need double threaded. (I forget the reason for this, I think it has something to do with sending and recieving info at the same time) Or, you could just use a wireless adapter, and buy a hub, I have cable internet, and we just use that for connecting two or more, and at our friends house, he was downstairs and he just had a really long cable, but at our house (we have two) tis wireless. Although I think something in the floor makes the reception laggy.

So you can buy regular cables, just make sure they are double threaded.

don't listen to the people above me. there not quite right.

I, personally, have hosted 5 Xbox and 2 PC lans, and have organized a weekly thing at my school and am currently organizing our Class Night Lan, which will be the biggest weve ever had, 2x 16 player lans, playing Unreal Championship, Halo 2, Battlefront 2, etc...

but enough of my resume.

youll need a few things.

1) A network hub or switch, or a DSL router if your in a jam

2) strait through, CAT-5 cables that can reach from the hub/router/switch to the X-boxs. you could have the hub at an intermediat distance and have two equal length cables going to the boxs, or have it next to a box with a short connector cable and a long one that can reach to the other one.

the cables can be pretty expensive if you buy them pre made. $30 or so if you want a 100 footer or something. I make my own, pretty cheep if you have a real of the stuff and the $50 crimping tool, but I assume that's out of the question for you?

so in the end you will have it go
Xbox -> Cable -> Hub/switch/router -> Cable -> Xbox

yea, that is what I was going for, I am just not good for at stuff like that. But you did forget the double threaded ethernet cords. I know that is true. It works when we have LANs.

I'm pretty sure that CAT-5 Ethernet cables are all duplex.
