Ive sorta struggled with this for awhile now, I cant seem to get my outside maps too look real, its always too dark and such. I have the proper light (env_light or light_env i forget) but its not bright enough...any help?

Try light_environment for outdoors.

Change the brightness of the light. What could be easier?

They dont light up, as far as I know. Some of them specify in their name that they are on. The model usually has a different texture than its "turned off" counterpart.
I'm also having trouble with that, since some of the props that light up dont do so with enough brightness.

yeah, looks dumb when a light isnt on but is lighting up the room :

Read my tutorial.

I bet you only textured a single surface of the ceiling brush with the "tools/toolsskybox" texture.

Light_environment is useless if you did not texture the whole brush with the skybox texture.

Don't worry. It's a common n00b mistake.

haha, maybe true but I think I have the whole brush covered, is it that the environment can be too big?

No such thing as too big.

Well, it's possible, but I haven't seen any map that exceeds the limit yet.

Even if you have a huge map that extends across the whole grid it lags like a bitch.
