Say i have a cube in the middle of my map. I angle my environment light say to -55, the 2 walls the light hits are fine, but the 2 opposite sides are pitch plack. How would i make it so its not all, black, and still has some light to it (assume this is a very big cube :) ) without using other light entitys to shine on it. Relatingly, how do i make it so the shadows cast are less drastic

the ambience parameter of the light_environment? set it higher?

Try a shadow controller entity.
