When's the last time you actually thought about how you are "just another human"?
I write as things comes to me, I couldn't care less about grammar as long as it flows through your mind.

Hey there, I haven't read it all, cos I'm bust atm, start of the term and all :

But hey, my name's also Sean ^^

Well, i just read all of that. Very interesting. Your views are very pessimistic.
Yes humans are a failure, and I do take note that you are agnostic. With that in mind, think about Adam and Eve. According to the Bible, they began this never ending pitfall of what is the human society.

About religion, people can still use their logical thinking and still be able to believe in a supernatural being. Religion brings hope to many people and there is nothing that disproves it. If you see the people who act self righteous because they are one minded on their religion. Does that have anything to do with you and your beliefs? A life without a god is hopeless, filled with so much despair.

Here's what my dad told me.
"I would rather believe in God and live a good life and find out he doesn't exist, than to live a bad life and find out he does exist."

Seriously I can agree with you that the human race is falling.
But pessimistic views get nowhere. I mean people are trying to make the world better for themselves.

Forgive me if I minunderstood you. It's a little late.

Oh hey you don't just invent elements. ;P Animals are not machines, are they made of funny alloys and plastics with names as long as your arm? Not quite. People are just like animals though, we want our territory just as much as they do it seems. People act like we're all so far removed from animals, but we still have the same responces to being cornered, being in social groups etc. Oh well, hope I don't spoil any of your fun. Hope you don't take this post the wrong way. :)

n00b #2, are you trying to say that people who don't believe in a god will automatically lead unhappy lives? That doesn't make any sense. Maybe I just misunderstood you, but it sounds like you're trying to say that happiness is based on whether you're religious or not... WTF?

By the way, I hope this won't turn the thread into another heated political/religious debate, but I fear it's destined to become that anyway. :)

Dont forget non believers also have no sense of right or wrong
Posted 17 years ago2006-07-17 04:35:51 UTC Post #190442
Wow, did you on purpose misunderstand that?

I'm talking to both of you here.

"I would rather believe in God and live a good life and find out he doesn't exist, than to live a bad life and find out he does exist."
If you ask me, it's pretty hard to misunderstand that kind of stuff. Then again, I've been wrong many a time...

If god excist then he is one sadistic motherfucker.

srry,

Sorry i forgot to say that, I can't imagine a world without a God. But that's also from self experience that If people don't have something bigger to believe in and are immersed in worldy things that they don't find happiness in these things.

A god just makes all these things fit.
My god just happens to be God.

But i feel it works for all religions.

I'll make it easy for you, most violence and tension wouldn't happen and america might be able to focus on using its power to make the world a better place instead of stopping gays from marrying.

All the time. Humans are animals. Accept it, chaps.

But that does indeed go to our head. I mean we have animals here to eat but we abuse our resources. I am guilty of this too. If anything, we shoudl all learn to be conservative of the things we have.

Hmm. Interesting I guess, though nothing I haven't heard before.

Humans are animals.
I concur. Like I said, we react just like they do to certain things. And...seventh is secretly three eighths monkey.

I think Agent Smith said it best:
I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species. I've realized that you are not actually mammals.

Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment. But you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area.

There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus.

The comentary certaintly does make you think...

Many wars in the world have been fueled by religion; look at the Crusades, or the wars when the Holy Roman Empire ruled... Religion (in my opinion (no, im not an atheist ;) )) is used to describe things that humanss do not understand or cannot prove, like the question "how did the earth come into existance?" A world without religion, it seems, would be impossible...

I totaly agree with the fact that people are our enemies because they are not like us; we fear what we dont understand. This is an other reason why war is fueled by religion: no religion is the same.

While there is seemingly no way to climb out of this deep, dark pit that we have been falling into since the dawn of our creation, it doesnt mean that we cant try our best to fall slower.

/2 cents

Exactly, when you compare yourself to the whole world which i feel is useless, yes you are just a speck of dust. The people that matter to you are your family. No one can take their place. They will always be there for you no matter what you do.

No, just some people seem unable to accept that they will never understand some things.

who does that point to? religious or non-religious people?

Being Alex, I'd be willing to bet that he was talking about Religious people. ;)
Posted 17 years ago2006-07-17 16:41:20 UTC Post #190558
good point, seventh, but that's why people believe in religion: they believe it's fact, and thats why there are so many diverse religions.
Posted 17 years ago2006-07-17 16:48:00 UTC Post #190562
No, just some people seem unable to accept that they will never understand some things.
I don't think that goes towards religious.
I feel that science is more geared towards that.
Science is the study of all things around us.
Religion is based on faith.

The last 10 posts made me laugh so hard!

About the thread starter- I know what you're talking about, but didn't you ever think about what we DID do? We separated ourselves from mindless animals (even though we still are animals) and created technology. Just imagine, there may be life on other planets, but I sure as hell bet those planets don't have a species like us. You used a computer to type that little report up! Don't you feel lucky to be so much smarter than other animals? Don't you feel smarter than 80% of other humans who are dumb as a doorknob?
Posted 17 years ago2006-07-18 13:21:16 UTC Post #190656
Our intelligence is destroying our eco-system. Sure, technology is a great thing. There are so many aspects to it all. But the environment is gunna be screwed over. As well as numerous other things. I say enjoy it while you can ;)
Ummm... You basically just repeated what he said.
Fiction and ignorance are different things. Not every bit of fiction is based on ignorance of one kind or another.
