I cannot find the folder where HL2 Episode 1 loads its materials. I want to put my custom materials for maps that I will create for EP1, but cant find the damn materials folder. EP1 is set up differently. I went into tools and looked as to where its getting its materials. This is all I can see:

Im assuming that it takes its materials from CSS, but I cannot see the rest of the directory. My materials load in CSS, but not in Episode One.

If anyone has any helpful suggestions please feel free to voice them :)

BTW, Ive GCF scaped, and found nothing in EP1 or CSS folder related to EP1 materials

I decompiled the first level just to look at the vmf file, but even in their own map they were missing materials. You might be right then Snpbond.

Thanks anyway. :)

Wasn't this released in the latest Source SDK update?
It should be among the others
"SourceSDK_content/HL2 ep1" perhaps?
I'm not sure because I don't have episode 1,,, yet! :o

I looked, not in sourcematerials and not in EP1...Weird mind you when Hammer was updated I searched for the first new textures I could think of and nothing showed.

Oh and Valve didn't supply us with the Hammer models for the new NPC's...You can manually place them in Hammer if you want...

there was a new update, madcow is right, I noticed it now that you can. When you open the source sdk, the drop down at the bottom has EP1 in it, try that.

No, mapping for Episode 1 was released, not the materials. If you decompile a Ep1 map and load it in Ep 1 SDK it will still have invalid materials. THat was the point of the thread. I cant find the materials even though the SDK is out :(

how does steam have the materials then?

Exactly what I was wondering. Thats why this thread exists :)

Decompiling maps doesnt work so well in my experience, however I cant argue that the materials arnt there. I've yet to check :P

I can't find them either. It seems valve hasn't given us any of the visible content for ep1.

Well.... I'm having to place our mod is compatibility mode for now. The new engine is a mess, and a lot of entities that should be there are just... not.

No HDR, no rotorwash effect, no screenpunch. If you run the sourcesdk base, you will find that it doesn't have maybe 75% of the entities in HL2. Not even the env_steam entity exists.

I'm going back to running with steamapp id 220, hopefully someday I can use the new features...

Maybe SourceSDKBase is just an addon, not a complete set of code?

It's what I read...As an update for mods so they can change from SteamAppID 20 to 15 or something like that. But it is also a Lost Coast FPS test for Valve.

I got 12.5 FPS all the way on full ;)

I love source and steam, they make things so simple and easy to understand like the old days.
