So, I'm guessing that it is not just coincidence that there is absolutely NOTHING on the net about creating an entirely new HUD for HL2 mods. I have been searching for not only hours, but days and can only find the same stupid answer: "To change the colors or fonts do this: ".

That is NOT an answer, and I am guessing that they do not use sprites for the HUD in HL2 (since there is nothing said about it anywhere). I am of course a noob at modding though, so I am guessing that you guys would have a more educated answer as to why I can not find any tutorials or programs for making your own HUDs.

So first, CAN you?
and if so.... HOW?!?!? (other than just hard coding it in)

the hud is stored in a font file, called hl2.ttf.

This is only the first step, you also need to code in order to do large changes.

and all i can find are tuts on how to insert messages, I want to COMPLETELY redo the whole HUD. That means sprites and all.

Matter of fact.... If valve is going to be so high and mighty about how "MODable" their game is, why don't (or didn't) they release something for this purpose? I mean come on, the HUD is definetly one of the main things people will want to mod, so why make it so everyone has to hard-code the changes in?

The triple-post police are here!!! See that edit button? :P

Anyway, I think it's expecting a bit too much from any company to make a program for every little task like this. You usually find that kind of stuff in user-made applications.

well they could atleast use sprites like they did in HL1. Why did they have to change it? I found out that they use VGUI2 for it, but i am unable to use their "in game editor" to modify the HUD.

Edit: Ok, I had a day to blow off some steam. Now has anyone come across a program that lets you modify the HUD similar to the way it could be modified in HL1? Even if it is not similar, anything would help. I just have no clue how to "code in" images or sprites onto the HUD (or even how to remove the ones already there for that matter). So again, any help would be great. Thanks ;)
