I've always wondered how they light maps like de_dust2... I'm making my own map and I'm working on one piece at a time. I started with bomb site a, and I put a light_environment in the middle of the section, and a few lights inside bombsite a (a room inside, like the B tunnel)

Problem is, if I don't put a light entity in every single pocket that the last light didn't hit, it's pitch black. Help?

Is your light_enviornment inside a brush or wall?

Did you surround your level with the skybox texture?

Show us a picture of both Hammer with light properties and in-game both light and dark.

Will do.

The selected entity is the light_environment, lighting the outside of A

Did you make sure the brightness isn't 0?

Also do you have a big prop or a big prop in the 3D sky box? Props like the citadel or something big. They could be casting a shadow on the map. If you do disable receiving shadows.

EDIT: Also! You have the start menu on the side of the screen!? That's weird! :P

Actually, having it on the side is really useful. Easier to switch between a lot of programs running at once.

Ohh yeah I can see where that can be an advantage.

Are you using model textures on it? Model textures flash black in-game.

Model textures...?

Textures have names like brickwall or water0111 etc...

If it has model/brickwall then don't use it.

Silly but Hammer displays all textures even from models.

Yeah the bombsite a signs are decal'd on with a texture model, thanks.
