In Spain, mandatory military service was abolished in 2001.

I think I know why females aren't complaining about it..

pst I think its because all the ones who don't wanna get drafted shut the ones who advocate womens right up about this issue. pst
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-25 18:41:02 UTC Post #204060
Its funny because you wont see (of ever have seen) any womens rights groups protesting against this. They are all for equality in the workplace, but when it comes to risking your life, oh let the men have it.

I say all or nothing, so either women bite the bullet and take the discrimination, or go for it all, GOOD OR BAD!

Its not fair that only men have to register and women dont. I for one am mad as hell! :) GET OFF UR LAZY ASSES BIATCHES AND GET TO FIGHTIN'! :cyclops: :cyclops: :cyclops:

I was planning on going into the military (And have been for a long time), but it they force me to go to war, then I'll be one pissed off son of a bitch.

And Bush said he wasn't going to be a draft.

On topic: I think it's a good thing. I mean, if we drafted women as well as men, imagine the state of the country.
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-25 19:07:39 UTC Post #204064
all or nothing, though in germany we have bundeswehr and zivildienst. I'm not sure how it works there. Its mandatory that you do one or the other, but not sure about gender.
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-25 19:12:34 UTC Post #204065
Ah, here you get registered at 16, but we dont have any active service.
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-25 19:15:16 UTC Post #204066
Obviously women's right groups don't care because they don't want to go to the army. Why should they, anyway? They protest against the things that are in their interest in one way or another.

For example, would you see some anti-racist black protester demonstrate against the discrimination of white people? Stop being silly.

Sweden has no mandatory draft. You pretty much only have to do military training if you want to, and even then you might not get accepted. Then again, we virtually have no army.

National registry(call of duty)...no such thing in the land of ozz, my opinion on lady's in the armed forces wether mandatory duty or self enrolment is a positive one.

Our members of the opposite sex are survivors, this is evident through history, they act and think different to us, they are cautious and don?t rush into things, we men tend to be aggressive (good for self sacrifice in battle) and don?t think of the consequences, on the other hand woman put allot more effort into strategize and positive outcomes.

Some people may flame me for my opinion (sticks and stones), let me put this into context for you, more male drivers die in road accidents than females (Note: remember world female population outranks male population).

If a woman is true to herself she will know that she is not physically equal to men, but we cannot expect them to stay chained to the kitchen sink and wait on us hand and foot, we must include them in decision making or we will end up with imbalance and eventually the end of man (woman inherit the earth) Noooo :)
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-25 20:43:09 UTC Post #204073
woman inherit the earth
As Dr. Ian Malcom and Dr. Ellie Sattler would argue, first men must create dinoaurs, and then dinosaurs must destroy men. Only then, women will inherit the earth.

I'm pretty sure women aren't eligible for being drafted(last time I checked, women can't be infantry at all). Why is this discriminatory?(if that even a word?) Men naturally have a more powerful figure than women, and the male figure is more useful when it comes to infantry. If we start a draft, why should we need to call on women in the first place if men are more suited for the job? It isn't saying men are better than women, its saying men are better suited for this specific instance than women. Women overpower men in svereal other things as well.
Of course, I can understand why some women might be offended by this cough*femenists*cough. But really, whether they intended for it or not, its better this way.

Women aren't technically allowed on the frontline, but in Iraq they're experiencing fighting just as much as men.

Uh, a "powerful figure" hardly determines how suited you are for war :P . I'd say it's pretty individual how well-suited you are for the battlefield... has little to do with gender. A larger figure and stronger physical strength are pretty much useless unless you live in ancient Greece or something.
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-26 10:22:56 UTC Post #204133
ZL is right, physical strength doesnt matter as much anymore as it did in the ancient world.

In terms of marksmanship, I would agree.

If you're dragging one of your mates off the battlefield your size becomes rather important. Size/strength also generally determines how much gear you can carry on the field.

I don't think we even need to go into hand-to-hand combat, though the likelyhood of that occuring in a modern war is minimized, I suppose.
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-26 13:15:40 UTC Post #204147
Not all women are frail and weak :P

With proper exercise and training, anyone can have a "powerful figure". And as ZL said, that's hardly everything that counts. Modern warfare seems to be striving to remove humans from the battlefield in favor of tactical weaponry. So that rule Orpheus described seems outdated to me.
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-26 13:43:05 UTC Post #204149
Most are and you know it.

Even many "fit" girls are weak. My girlfriend competed at the state level for soccer last year--she is in shape as they get--, but she has no upper body strength... she can barely do one push-up!!1

Equally trained, men are and women are not equal... it's just that simple.

If I was in Iraq right now in urban combat, I would feel better if I had no women in my squad.

I think they should be drafted like the men, just no front-line combat.

[/2 cents]

in Israel everyone is taught CQC and how to kill someone in it ^^ women to are taught.

Same in the US military, but women are simply not as good at it--that's the point.
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-26 14:19:19 UTC Post #204153
Says who? The statistics? If we're going to go by that rule, why don't we kick men out of, I don't know, sewing or raising kids? Statistically, women are better. Who gives a crap? It's individual.
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-26 14:27:49 UTC Post #204155
You are so full of it and you know it.

Whatever, I don't really care. You can have the girls in your squad when we fight the alien invasion; good luck with that :P

Who needs statistics when you can make rational observations:

-Why are there no women in Ultimate fighting or boxing?
-Why would the best women's footbal team get crushed by the worst men's team?
-Why is your mother so goddamned sexy :P

I win ZombieLoffe! ;)

Because of social norms and stereotypes. That's it.

And no, you don't win. In fact, you've never won, ever. And even if you ever did win, it'd probably be because your opponent made a pity-walkover. And even if not, you're still retarded.

You're a retarded cunt. How's that for a real argument, you fuckfaced dickwad?

Please let us know when you are able to have any sort of real discussion instead of acting like a retarded butt-monkey in every singly thread. Until then, just stay the fuck off the more or less serious threads.

edit: I think "fuckfaced" should be hyphenated ;)

A more powerful structure means more stamina, which is absolutely neccessary for a soldier. Science and genetics override opinion. Its more than just trench warfare where it all depends on who can shoot more accurately. And of course, like Rowley said before, more strength is needed to carry gear, and soldiers carry a shitload of crap around with them.

But Rowley, you've got to stop being so arrogant. Its just annoying.
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-26 17:19:03 UTC Post #204172
ROFLMAO, stop acting so immature ZL. Whats with the juvenile language? You're way to stubborn. Now i know that i myself have certain discussions with certain people on this forum, but at least we don't flame each other.
And your argument was really rather weak.

Personally I think you are a self righteous ass ^^.

You can never admit that someone might have a better argument than you, or commend someone for trumping you.
You yourself always talk about the shit in the world giving people these "insightful" views, yet you yourself act exactly like the Christian church which you hate so much acted centuries before. Its always only your way or the highway. Sometimes you don't even see how absurd your beliefs are yourself
here ill just remind you that you still believe that record companies take 99% of the earnings for a cd. Think a bit further and ask yourself why people even still make music or how they stay alive?

Lighten up and remove that plank of wood from your eye before pointing out the splitter in someone else's. (proverbs ftw ^^)

Conscription is grossly uncivilised.

As usual, U.S.A. << Europe, Australasia.

I like the model for "Service" in Starship Troopers:

-Nobody has to join
-If you join you can quit anytime--you can just never re-join.
-A term of service is the only thing that makes you a full citizen --run for public office/vote.
Conscription is grossly uncivilised.
I disagree. What's wrong with being forced to serve your country? We should all want to serve our country.

In the same I'm a hypocrite, since I've not joined and don't plan to. I would go if there was a draft, though--without crying about it.
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-26 18:30:37 UTC Post #204181
Oh yes Rowley, lets force young men to go out there and die for their country before they can even get their lives going. Hurrah for conscription.

If citizens aren't willing to fight for their own country, then who will?

Robots ftw!!1
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-26 18:37:59 UTC Post #204185
But there are citizens willing to fight. The UK doesn't have conscription yet we have people willing to fight.

Put it this way, lets say that at 18 you register because you are forced to. Then, at 23 with a girlfriend and planning to get married and all that stuff a war breaks out and you are forced into combat. A few months later you die before you can even marry her and have a family, all because you had to register.

You see Rowley, there are people that are willing to put their life on the line. But then there are some that don't. Why should we force them to possibly die for their country? Wheres the justification in that?

When conscription's inacted, it means there's not enough citizens volunteering, afaik.

Technically we aren't in a war, so we can't start a draft. Bush(or congress? I forget which makes the call) never declared war.
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-26 18:58:47 UTC Post #204195
Which would imply that more troops are required. We have many but we're also tapping into reserves and whatnot.

I plan on serving a contract in a few years anyway so I don't really care. It will give me flight time which I can apply to my career and will mean I'm doing a job I would like to do. Can't object to that.

Your point? Playing soccer and training in the army isn't the same thing. Yes, by default men have more physical strength than women, but does that mean that women offered the same training as their male counterparts are weaker?

I don't think so.

Hello Sargent!

i would probably be an army sniper..

you are aware that the iraki sand-n...are smart and have learnt how to avoid sniper fire? Most snipers go through a war without firing a shot.
You ever see jarhead? Why does everyone want to be a sniper? Spec. Ops are much more 1337 due to their stealthy ninjaness
