When I startup SDK from Steam, it shows the loading dialog, then it "preforms an illegal operation" and crashes, any ideas ?

I would prefer not to re-download all of it, because South African Internet is oppresive

Did you try restarting? Usually that will solve a lot of crashes and issues with Steam and it's applications.

I think I've done that, but I'll do it again now that I've "verified"

And what would [Defragment Cache Files] do ?
It's the option under [Verify integrity]

It'll defrag your GCF files. Try it, worth a shot.
