I found this pretty interesting. :)

While stupid politicians keep crapping on about how video games are evil, more and more studies are showing the benefits that come from gaming.

I thought Satchmo might find this interesting, but then I remembered he's a doctor and not a surgeon. ;o

Anyway, I propose more studies on video games so the world can see how truly awesome they are! ;D

Interesting. Though I'm sure it's not just surgeons that can benefit from playing video games, but just about everyone. :)

Interesting, especially since they're just plain ol' video games and not special games designed for training or the like.

I read a very similar article about this same thing a looooooong time ago (2004 or 2005, it seems), but if you haven't read it, it's still really interesting.

It's not just surgeons though. I thought it was a fairly well known fact that playing video games improved your hand-eye coordination greatly, which obviously can be used in many different situations.

That article didn't counterdict that idea, read the last paragraph carefully:
Parents should not see this study as beneficial if their child is playing video games for over an hour a day," Gentile said. "Spending that much time playing video games is not going to help their child's chances of getting into medical school.
Playing all day acording to the paragraph isn't helpful. They ment that playing aproximetly 9 hour a week is helpful if it's in addition to studing. All in proportions, not too much not too little.

As for my opinion: surely there are other and better ways to develop those skills, I'm sure of it. Maybe drawing. :| Although that there is nothing wrong in playing in the computer.

I haven't played actual computer games for ages (Though I probably will be when C&C3 is released ;)), but I mostly model in blender, engineer in CAD, do homework, study, do more homework, go to school, and study more. And maybe read. And program. And play a 2 minute round of CSS...once a week.

Ah, the joy of grade 10.

You could substitute modeling in Blender for playing games, if you wanted. Or just drop out and spend all day on WoW! :P

There was a piece about this on the radio a while ago, wich stated that gamers, of action games, had a better perception of there surroundings.

Some people have a hard time understanding there not welcome here, and the only reason he is allowd to keep his acount is to perform a certain amount of control over him.

You cant possibly blame people for being stupid.

What have you never killed someone, everybody does that once in a while you know. Haven't you seen those idiots who hop all the time with knifes or guns in their hand shooting at each other, it's a very common sight around the globe.
