Ever since i got the new ZoneAlarm security suite, my computer has been running like crap. I cant play Source games at all, nor flash in browsers, and even old games like Driver 1 (yes, ONE) lag a bit.

Naturally, in my investigation in to the cause of this, i checked my processes list, and was shocked to find what i did.

For someone with as little RAM as me, this is completely mad.
That shot was taken while my computer was idling.
ZoneAlarm wasn't scanning for viruses or spyware, that's just its background check. 40mb of RAM for a constant background check?! Bullshit!

Does anyone have ideas on how i can reduce the ammount of RAM my processes are taking up? I really dont want to get rid of the new ZoneAlarm suite. It's very good in all other respects.

edit:

I should also point out that the other processes surrounding the 2 scanningprocesses never used as much RAM before i got ZoneAlarm, which makes no sense what-so-ever

Weird, my vsmon.exe only perks up when its in use. I'm guessing ZoneAlarm could be running a silent background check?

I tend to keep away from "all-in-one" packages, as they generally don't do anything right. I've been using ZoneAlarm Pro for a good few years now (ttly paid for it, fo sho!!1) and it's never given me any strive.

Reinstall? Downgrade to just the firewall component and use other programs for the other stuff?

My vsmon takes 30~ish MB of memory pretty much constantly... never really bothered me, I have some to spare.
I'm guessing ScanningProcess.exe is the culprit here - if ZA isn't actually scanning, why are they running? I suggest you get rid of that "suite" crap and get ZA Pro from some formidable place, like, oh I don't know, the internets.

The Internetz is also a good place to look.

I personally use ZA Pro (Somewhat Free), AVG (Free), Ad-Aware (Free) and Spybot - Search & Destroy (Free). The results? Haven't had a major virus or spyware issue in about 3 years.

Then again, maybe I'm just WIN ZOMGZ

Well, completely ignoring the lot of you,
I've got rid of the suite, got AVG Free edition, Ashampoo spyware and system optimizer and Comodo anti-virus.

No more suites, and as such, all is well.

I use pretty much the same as Ant, haven't had a virus or spyware problem for as long as I can remember. A big factor might just be not downloading .mp3.exes of Kazaa and/or not using internet explorer.

I swear i could actually hear my PC breathing a sigh of relief :)

So. Lesson learned today:

Don't use an all-in-one suite.

In the first picture, your CPU usage was at 21%. I'm wondering, was that while idling?

Yes. My computer was completely idle on the desktop.

Blah, CPU usage was the thing, not memory...
