There is the compiling script I get. I've made a very simple map (first actual one of many test tries to get used to the tools) and whenever I try to run the map I get a black screen and an error sound but no error pops up. CSS just doesn't start up and the map won't load if I goto CSS and try to play the map from map files. Does anyone know what this is? I've been stressing over this for hours and days even I just don't know whats wrong!

I dont think hammer is configured for it

I configured everything, took me hours to get everything right, or what I believe is right.

I don't think its the configuration but if it is, what could it be thats not configured right, so I can check or change that?

Dont auto execute.
He doesn't mean you've configured hammer wrong. He means that steam will have fucked up the auto-execute somehow. (they're good at that)

When you hit F9, uncheck the little ticky box that says Start map after compile or something like that, then to play your map, load the game and manually type "map <mapname>" into the console.

Wait, it just occured to me, are you using Zoners HL1 tools for source? 0.o
